Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tamara Curry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tamara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Our brand stems from our CEO’s admiration of her mother, Moti. Every morning growing up, she’d see her mom put her best outfits together to go to work. As she followed the same standard, she always found herself going to her mother’s room to find those perfect pieces. By living with the core value of dressing up to personally feel and look good, Moti’s House is for the women who live by this standard. Our hope is for Moti’s House to become your favorite fashion house to find your perfect pieces to live out confidently.
Another aspect to Moti’s House is Moti’s House Boutique. Moti’s House Boutique, honors and celebrates the rich heritage of Liberian designers and entrepreneurs. Inspired by the values of a Liberian mother who viewed dressing up as a form of self-care and respect, the boutique collection is dedicated to reflecting and uplifting these traditions.
When you shop with us, you’re not just embracing style; you’re also supporting a cause close to our hearts. We proudly allocate 15% of our proceeds to support Liberian businesses, helping to foster growth and opportunity within the community.
Those who purchase with us contribute to a broader mission of respect and support for Liberian craftsmanship and entrepreneurship, ensuring that the values we cherish continue to thrive.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a Liberian American, my upbringing was steeped in a rich and vibrant culture that celebrated individuality and expression through fashion. Born in Houston and raised in Colorado within a Christian Liberian family, dressing up was not just a pastime; it was a cherished tradition that brought joy and meaning to our daily lives. Whether it was for school, church, or one of our lively traditional celebrations, my greatest thrill came from curating outfits that reflected my personality and heritage.
From an early age, the entrepreneurial spirit sparked by my mother inspired me to explore my own ventures. In middle school, bamboo earrings were all the rage, and my mother made sure my twin sister and I had the latest styles. With her success in selling bags and jewelry, I embarked on my own journey to launch an earring business. While this venture was exciting, I faced a few challenges as my target audience was limited within my school.
Despite my aspirations to build a brand, I often found myself overshadowed by self-doubt, focusing on what I lacked rather than embracing my potential. However, as I grew in my Christian faith and surrounded myself with supportive mentors, I discovered the courage to take the leap. It was during my junior year of college that I began to truly shape my vision, driven by a desire to create a brand with purpose—one that uplifts and empowers women to become their best selves.
Enter Moti’s House. Our mission is to inspire women to dress with confidence, both in and out of the workplace. We recognize the struggles many women face in their search for versatile, size-inclusive, and fashionable clothing. That’s where we come in.
At Moti’s House, we craft pieces with quality materials designed to embrace and complement the female form. Our collection embodies vibrant, bold, and elegant designs that empower women to express their unique style without compromising on comfort or quality. We are dedicated to offering universal pieces that resonate with stylish women who believe in presenting their best selves at all times.
I am incredibly proud of the community we are building—a space where women celebrate their bodies and find clothing that aligns with their values. Moti’s House is not just a brand; it’s a movement towards confidence and self-acceptance. I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that when you wear our pieces, you are not just wearing clothing; you are embracing a philosophy of empowerment and authenticity.
Join us on this journey, and let’s redefine what it means to dress with confidence together.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’ve always cherished the experience of reading physical books. As a child, they provided an escape, much like your favorite sitcom or movie, allowing me to visualize new worlds and ideas. As I grew older, my interests shifted toward non-fiction, where I found not just stories, but tools for personal and professional growth.
One book that profoundly impacted me is Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. It was a pivotal eye-opener, reshaping how I perceive challenges and success. This book highlights the pitfalls of a fixed mindset and offers powerful strategies to cultivate a growth mindset—transforming adversity into opportunity.
Armed with this knowledge, I view entrepreneurship as an active practice in embracing a growth mindset. It’s a continuous journey of learning and resilience, where overcoming failures is not just expected but celebrated as essential to personal and professional development. I believe that by sharing our experiences and insights, we can inspire each other to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles we face.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned while building my brand and running a business is the significance of resilience and perspective. As a designer based in Colorado, one of the biggest challenges I faced was navigating the complexities of sourcing and manufacturing. In the early stages, I approached the process with limited knowledge, believing that one test run would be sufficient. However, I quickly encountered disappointment. Rather than letting it deter me, I chose to view each setback as a necessary investment in my learning journey.
To this day, I continue to learn about the intricacies of tech packs, sizing, and fabrics, and each lesson enriches my understanding of the industry. This ongoing process has led me to dedicate more time to the philanthropic side of Moti’s House—introducing Moti’s House Boutique.
At Moti’s House Boutique, we honor and celebrate the vibrant heritage of Liberian designers and entrepreneurs. Inspired by the values of a Liberian mother who viewed dressing up as a form of self-care and respect, our boutique reflects and uplifts these beautiful traditions.
While this isn’t a full pivot away from curating and designing, my recent travels to Liberia opened my eyes to the incredible craftsmanship and creativity within the local community. Meeting talented artisans and entrepreneurs ignited a desire to give back and support these initiatives. This new facet of the Moti’s House brand not only fuels my passion for design but also serves as a reminder to persevere and embrace the journey, no matter the obstacles.
