We were lucky to catch up with Brian Paek recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
I would say the biggest challenge is getting people through the door and buying pre-sale tickets. I’m not sure why, but Atlanta does not buy pre-sale tickets unless there is a big artist/DJ they want to see. This makes it hard for local event planners to throw events as there is no way to know how many guests to expect. When I first started doing InvAsian, it was always such a huge worry wondering how many people would actually come to the event and if we had to cancel because there was not enough pre-sales. Thankfully, most of our audience buys tickets the week of the event so we never had to cancel a show and hope we never have to
So please support all your local event planners by buying pre-sale tickets!! It is the only way for us to compete with the big event coordinators !!

Brian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I have a background in construction and never have done events before InvAsian. I was lucky enough to get into the industry because of the people I knew. It was honestly just lucky timing as District also wanted to do an Asian themed rave.
We try to provide an unique experience that you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. We strive to capture the traditional aspects of an Asian culture through live performances like, martial arts, traditional instruments, dances, etc, and through music.
What I am most proud of is how diverse the event is. I absolutely love the fact that there are so many people wanting to experience and learn about a different culture especially in a club setting. It is only because of our audience that we are able to continue bringing unique experiences every month and we can not wait to continue that tradition!!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
What worked for me and what I still do now, is I joined a bunch of groups on facebook. EDM groups, anime groups, etc and just posted the events on there for every event. I got the different group admins to help promote in exchange for some free tickets.
After that, its mainly word of mouth. Once you have something new and different, I believe everyone would come check it out. Be consistent with what you do and make sure your audience has a blast so they will want to come back

Any advice for managing a team?
I have said this before and I will always say this. Just be nice
Treat your team as a team and not employees. I know for a fact that I would not be where I am today without my team. They are the backbone of everything I do and I appreciate them so much.
As for maintaining morale, just have an open line of communication. Make sure your team is taken care of. I take care of my team every so often by giving them special gifts during the event for them and friends so they can also have an amazing time during the event.
Take care of your team and they will take care of you.
