We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Griffith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Julia, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
J&L Keepsakes LLC serves an underserved community by offering affordable DNA jewelry, specifically breastmilk and cremation jewelry, in a market where many prices have risen steeply. In today’s economic climate, where costs are rapidly increasing, many families find it hard to justify purchasing meaningful keepsakes without breaking the bank. By keeping prices realistic and working within each customer’s budget—whether modest or substantial—J&L Keepsakes ensures that everyone has the chance to commemorate meaningful moments in life.
One story that encapsulates this is of a mother who had been breastfeeding for over a year, a journey that took incredible dedication and time. When searching for a keepsake to commemorate that effort, she was overwhelmed by the high costs from other businesses. When she found J&L Keepsakes, we worked together to create a piece within her budget, giving her the opportunity to preserve a cherished memory in an affordable way.
Similarly, when families are grieving the loss of a loved one, the emotional and financial toll can be overwhelming. With cremation jewelry, J&L Keepsakes ensures that honoring a loved one’s memory doesn’t add further financial stress. Being able to offer keepsakes at a fair price during such moments is not just a business decision, but a commitment to helping those who need it most.

Julia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the owner of J&L Keepsakes LLC, a small business that specializes in creating affordable DNA jewelry, such as breastmilk and cremation jewelry. I got into this industry because I believe in the deep emotional connection that personalized keepsakes can provide. When I began my journey, I noticed that many businesses in this space were pricing their products well beyond what most people could afford, especially as the cost of living continues to rise. This struck me as unfair, particularly since these keepsakes often commemorate deeply personal moments like breastfeeding milestones or the loss of a loved one. My goal was simple: to make these precious keepsakes accessible to everyone, regardless of their budget.
At J&L Keepsakes, we offer customized jewelry that incorporates personal elements like breastmilk or cremation ashes. These items are carefully handcrafted to provide a lasting memory of a significant life experience. The pieces we create are unique and deeply personal, offering our customers a tangible connection to a moment, a journey, or a loved one.
What sets us apart is our commitment to realistic pricing. While many businesses have raised their prices, we strive to ensure that no one is priced out of preserving their memories. We work closely with customers to find options that fit within their budget, and we never compromise on quality. Whether someone is looking for a small, simple piece or something more elaborate, we ensure that everyone can walk away with a keepsake that fits their needs and financial situation.
The thing I’m most proud of is the way our work impacts people’s lives. I’ve had customers who thought they would never be able to afford a piece of breastmilk or cremation jewelry and were incredibly emotional when they found out they could. It’s about more than just selling a product—it’s about helping people preserve important, often irreplaceable memories.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about J&L Keepsakes, it’s that we believe everyone deserves to commemorate their special moments, no matter what their budget is. We’re not just a business; we’re a partner in helping people preserve the memories and connections that matter most to them.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I do sell on multiple platforms. I started with etsy, as they are known for handmade products. That took off! Then I decided to create my own website. My website is thriving! Dnajewelry.net has my own personal touch and helps customers see my true artistic side!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media has been a journey of authenticity and consistency. I focused on sharing the personal stories behind my pieces, like why a mother might want to commemorate her breastfeeding journey or how a cremation piece can help someone grieve. These stories helped me connect emotionally with my audience.
Engagement was also key—I made it a priority to respond to comments and create a real sense of community. Collaborations with other small businesses also expanded my reach. My advice for anyone starting out is to focus on being authentic, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different content. Over time, meaningful connections will lead to growth.
