We recently connected with Maikol Rangel and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maikol thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
In my early days as a tattoo artist, I remember not having any money. I bought a very affordable tattoo kit and started working on a small dining table. I called a few friends to do a couple of tattoos for them, and that’s how this great journey as a tattoo artist began. This part of my career brings back great memories, and I’m always grateful to everyone for their trust.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello, my name is Maikol Rangel, I am 37 years old and I was born in Maracay, Venezuela. Since I was a child, I was inclined toward art; I always loved drawing, and my mother recognized my talent and supported me by enrolling me in art, drawing, clay, and painting classes. I participated in several drawing contests during my childhood in Venezuela, winning first place in many of them. I’ll never forget the first one—it was at the Valle Hondo Hotel in Barinas, Venezuela, when I was 7 years old, and I won by drawing Yogi Bear, a cartoon I always watched.
As I grew older, I tried studying various university courses, but none of them felt right until I decided to study graphic design, which was closely tied to art. I immediately fell in love with the career, and it has helped me immensely in my tattoo art today, especially when creating my designs. I’ve been a tattoo artist for 7 years, and I’ve spent the last 5 years here in the United States.
Starting out as a tattoo artist was challenging, particularly due to the situation in my country and the lack of resources. Still, I always found a way to push forward and continue learning. Eventually, I moved to Miami, where new doors opened for me. The beginning was tough, but, as with anything, when you approach it with perseverance, determination, and faith, the results are always rewarding.
I’ve had the opportunity to tattoo renowned figures in the arts world, including Hollywood actors like Luke Evans, world-class singers such as Nicky Jam, Manuel Turizo, Ricky Montaner, and Donavon Frankenreiter, professional soccer players like Josef Martinez from Inter Miami, fitness icon Michelle Lewin, model Shannon de Lima, writer and speaker Daniel Habif, actress Leli Hernández, and many more.
This country has given me great opportunities, and I thank God every day for allowing me to come here. I opened my private studio three years ago, and it brings me joy to know that I can inspire others to dream big. If we work hard, we can achieve our dreams, and this is just the beginning.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back in time, I would definitely choose to be a tattoo artist again because I’ve always loved painting and drawing. For a long time, I’ve been fascinated by tattoos and how you can take something you’ve created on paper and replicate it exactly on human skin. It’s something truly incredible. I would definitely do it all over again.
