We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Young. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Jasmine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Honestly, I’ve been misunderstood my entire life. So with my work of being a comedian and content creator. People don’t like the truth. It’s always going to be misconstrued. However, I had to learn at such a young age that. I remember being a kid and having not only kids but, adults trying to silence me. Or people I was friends with always wanted me to act “normal “ and don’t ruffle any feathers.
Living authentically and living out your truth. It just makes people uncomfortable. It’s too real and in you’re face. I always thought outside the box and ask the questions that people were too afraid too. Say the things were to scared to say out loud. So my insights were many people who aren’t ready to face who they really are to be because, they’re afraid to be judged. I took from the experience that I’m just a person who has a strong spirit and people love to put their insecurities onto you, and it’s not your job to please everybody.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
How I got into the comedy industry is tiktok. I had a mission. I finally brought my first iPhone with my own money. So with that iPhone , before I brought I said “I’m making a tiktok, that’s my opportunity.” That was in 2020 during the pandemic. Here it is 2024 and , 20,007K people later. My vision is expanding. People ALWAYS told me that I was funny. However, when I saw tiktok I knew then it was my turn to take the chance of opportunity.
The type of creative work I provide is comedy. Laughter is the best medicine. It’s so healing and it makes me feel better knowing that I can make somebody laugh and brighten up their day. I also talk about real life issues within my community. What sets me apart from others is that I say the parts that people don’t want to say out loud. I’m raw , uncut, and unfiltered. What I’m most proud of and what I would like potential fans / followers to know about me is that. My brand and everything about me is about being authentically you. No matter what people say , or if the world don’t like you. What matters is that you know you that girl. Healing is cool speaking your truth is cool. That alone will elevate you to who you truly are. Whatever your gift is that is your superpower. Use your voice , love yourself, and always generate love. Because love is the highest vibration you can emit.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can stop being so damn judgmental. Society can be a little more supportive than have creatives hang up to scrutinize. The best thing society can do is actually pour into the minds and hearts of creatives. We are much needed on this planet, than any other job. Especially a 9-5 . Everything ain’t for everyone so pushing a blue collar job down someone’s throat ain’t it. Or even being negative and shooting down our dreams because, it’s not traditional. Or you don’t see the labor of the fruit dropping from the tree doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
So how I build my social media platform, is that I took advice from Robert Benjamin on you on how to grow on social media platforms. However, I made sure I crafted it into my own. He is a huge help I want to make that clear. Talking to your followers , responding to comments. That makes them feel loved and seen. As they should be they’re the ones who got you this far. Always show love and support to your followers. Plus just be yourself self if you even do a trend put your own spin on it. People can feel when you’re not being yourselves. Have fun and talk about things you can talk about for hours. That you’re passionate about. Make sure you hope on trends or hot topics right away. Especially if you in my field like comedy. Like I said be yourself and find what works for you.
