We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tia Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tia below.
Alright, Tia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
After I am Dead as a Door knob (True Blood Reference). I hope to leave my footprints in the form of books. I hope to write stories that let African American ATL girls know that their Imaginations are a gift. That I too love boys with dark messy hair. That I two wish I could just become a vampire already. I want my imagination to spark the flames of wildfires in the hearts of everyone who reads my books. For them to know its never too late to do anything you are serious about. I want people to say, “WOW, I never knew she was this far gone.” But in all seriousness I want them to know that what I write about might not have been serious, my passion for it was. I want them to say “I felt her love in the spaces between the words.”

Tia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At this current moment I am a teacher and a writer who is in the middle of finishing my first ever book. Not fun at all! Teaching all day, writing one page all night. As of now I would say the thing that holds the prime spot on my mantel of pride would be the pages I have finished so far. I have never been this delusional before about how great my storytelling abilities are. In all seriousness though, I am very proud of myself for not letting the craziness of life drain me of my superpowers. As I have stated before if you read all about me before, I have no brand. My brand is to be human and to share, exaggerate, explore, sometimes fabricate but also give the brutal truth about what I consider the human experience through my own and several other fictional and non-fictional perspectives… But most fictional because I certainly do not write to repeat history or true stories. Only the stories you wish were true.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is taking my own natural gifts and giving them a physical form.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to write a book or with any luck a series of books that are turned into a Netflix series/ movies. Like Harry Potter or the Twilight Series. Thats whats driving me about 10 percent of the time. The other 90 percent is to make my childhood self proud. The one that told me I was a writer from the start.
