We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lellopepper. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lellopepper below.
Lellopepper, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
It’s interesting when I think about singling out one project as the “most meaningful” because it reminds me that I approach each new creation and idea with the same sense of discovery and purpose. My art is deeply rooted in the present moment. And thinking back on it all, it feels like one big meaningful movement. I think the true beauty of my work lies in its evolution, like nature itself. My focus has been on projects tied to our environment, nature’s intricate rhythms, and how we can impact humanity, especially in relation to climate awareness and sustainability. These works flow and shift day to day, growing organically. That constant movement, the dynamic conversation with the world around me, is what gives my art its soul. Staying present, responding to what the moment calls for, is the essence of meaning for me as an artist.

Lellopepper, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an artist from Detroit, and work globally. Creativity has been my language since toddlerhood. I fell into photography when I picked up a camera to capture my paintings, and it became an extension of my hands. I love exploring, experimenting, and playing with light and flowing where the current takes me. My work is a mix: art books, sustainable wearables, textile sculptures, photography, films… Maybe it’s from growing up surrounded by the great lakes – sea and fruit have always been themes throughout, bubbling up like symbols of joy and home, filling me with something I can’t quite put into words.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think it’s the unfiltered, pure freedom to pour myself into my work. There’s no mask, no need to blend in or fit into some predetermined box. The raw, beautiful alignment between who I am and what I bring into the world feels right. It’s like happiness has no choice but to follow when you’re you in every creation.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Music and dance are important to me… the pulse of Detroit’s soul scene, where every beat carried a story, and my childhood was a whirlwind of movement, dancing to hypnotic Italo disco, the synth-laden magic of ’80s electronica, back when the world hummed without cell phones. I often think of my photo shoots, the songs that scored each moment, how my curated playlists infused photo shoots with energy. I think music is a vast sea of inspiration… there’s always something new to hear, to discover.
