Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthony Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Anthony , thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I started playing soccer when I was 5, all because of my older brother. He was everything I wanted to be growing up, so I copied everything he did, including playing soccer. Little did I know that kicking the ball around would lead me to experiences I never imagined. I was fortunate enough to play at Saint Louis University, which has an incredible soccer history with the most Division 1 national titles—10 in total.
The idea of starting my own soccer-related business actually hit me during my sophomore year at SLU. I went to a career fair at the business school and had the chance to chat with the owner of Vetta Sports, a big name in the St. Louis area, especially for indoor soccer leagues. His passion for what he built really stuck with me, and it sparked a dream to create something of my own where I could give back to the game that gave so much to me. I wanted to offer something to kids of all ages who were eager to get better at soccer.
Initially, AB Technical Training was just an idea. I always thought I’d have a long, successful professional playing career, and then down the road, I’d start the business. But life had a different plan. My pro career didn’t last as long or go the way I envisioned, but that’s okay. I realized I could still stay connected to the game I love by starting that business earlier than planned, and in May of 2019, AB Technical Training was born.
One of the biggest challenges was figuring out how to get the word out. Again, credit goes to my older brother Torrence, who was coaching at the time. He told his players about my training, and I started working with about 10 of his kids. From there, I began posting training clips on Instagram, and things took off. Word spread quickly, and before I knew it, more kids were reaching out for training. That was the moment I knew this dream was turning into something real.
It’s been an amazing journey, helping kids develop as players and being the role model I wished I had growing up. Seeing them enjoy my sessions, come back for more, and improve over time is incredibly rewarding. One step at a time, I’m just trying to make a difference in their soccer journey.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Anthony Brown, and I got into soccer at the age of 5, starting out in the Belle Clair rec league. After a few years there, I took my game to the next level by joining my first club, BFC (Belleville Football Club), which is now Metro Alliance. As I continued to develop quickly as a player, I made the switch to SLSG Metro, where I spent the rest of my youth career, growing through their academy program.
I got into soccer training because I was obsessed with improving my own game. I was always finding new ways to get better and realized I didn’t want to keep all that knowledge to myself. That’s when I started training other players, sharing what I’d learned over the years. One challenge I’ve helped my clients overcome is the mindset that progress happens overnight. The development process is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time and dedication to become a high-quality player, and I’ve built a reputation for helping players stick with the process and grow technically sound over time.
What sets me apart from other trainers in the area is my passion and energy during sessions. I get really animated, pushing my players to reach new levels. My drive, grit, and hard work in every session show that I’m fully invested in their success. For potential clients, I want them to know that if they commit to my training programs, they’ll see real improvement in their game. I’ve never had a player finish one of my programs and not come out better than when they started. That’s how confident I am in what I do.
The best part for me is when players keep coming back for more. Seeing them progress and wanting to continue their development fuels me to keep pushing them to improve. It’s all about helping them become the best version of themselves on and off the field.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my social media audience for AB Technical Training has been an exciting journey. It started out pretty organically. My first clients were kids from my brother’s team, and I would record clips of their training sessions and post them on Instagram. I focused on showing real results and the progress my players were making. I didn’t even have a big strategy at the time—I just shared what I was passionate about. Over time, word of mouth kicked in, and more players started reaching out for sessions. The more I trained, the more content I had to post, and that consistency really helped me grow my presence.
I think a big part of my growth came from being authentic. People could see how invested I was in helping kids improve, and that built trust. I wasn’t just trying to push out content for the sake of it—I was showing what I do, why I do it, and how it benefits my players.
For anyone just starting out with building their social media presence, my advice would be to stay consistent and stay real. Post regularly, even if it’s just small updates, and let people see the behind-the-scenes work. Don’t feel like everything has to be perfect—sometimes the raw, unfiltered moments are what people connect with the most. Also, engage with your audience. Respond to comments, answer questions, and really interact with people. The more genuine your interactions, the more likely people are to stick around and follow your journey.
Lastly, be patient. Building an audience doesn’t happen overnight. Keep focusing on what you love, and the followers will come as they connect with your passion. We are still learning how to figure this stuff out too!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One story that really stands out when it comes to resilience is when I had to shift my focus from being a professional player to starting AB Technical Training earlier than I expected. Growing up, like many players, I had this dream of having a long, successful career in professional soccer. I had worked hard, played at high levels, and envisioned my path leading to big things on the field. But life threw a curveball, and my professional playing career didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. It was definitely tough to accept at first.
I had always planned to launch AB Technical Training eventually, but I thought it would be after my pro career. When things didn’t go as planned, I had to pivot and focus on what I could control. That’s when I decided to jump into starting my training business earlier than expected. It wasn’t easy—there were a lot of doubts and questions about whether it would succeed, especially since it wasn’t part of the “plan.”
Looking back, that decision was one of the best things that happened to me. It taught me that setbacks don’t have to stop your journey—they can actually redirect you to something even better. The experience of turning what felt like a loss into a new opportunity really showed me the importance of resilience. Instead of getting stuck on what didn’t happen, I leaned into what I could create, and AB Technical Training was born.
Now, seeing how far the business has come and how much impact it’s had on the kids I train, I’m grateful for that shift in direction. It’s a reminder that resilience is about adjusting when things don’t go your way and still moving forward.
