We were lucky to catch up with Eduardo Arreola recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eduardo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Starting off was really difficult because I didn’t know very many people here in Texas. I started by sharing my baked goods with friends and they slowly started sharing my work on social media. Every so often I do giveaways on my social media pages where customers share my work by “tagging” friends for a chance to win treats of their own.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Eduardo, by night I am a 9-1-1 telecommunicator and a baker by day. I make all sorts of treats from sugar cookies to wedding cakes. I consider my work to be couture and don’t sacrifice taste for looks.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There has definitely been times where I’ve wanted to give up. I specifically remember being in a rush and taking some cakes out of the with an oven mitt that had gotten wet. The heat went through the mitt so fast and burned my hand, shortly after I dropped a whole cake layer and had to bake a replacement.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I don’t have very many followers on social media yet. However I do take initiative to do giveaways for people who share my social pages or work. I have people “tag” their friends in an effort to get them to like or follow any of my social media pages. The best advice I could give is to not give up. Some days you won’t get any new followers and other days you’ll get quite a few. Success doesn’t always come easy, sometimes it requires a lot of hard work.
