We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Didi Rio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Didi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Just a little after I started creating comedy videos on the internet, I got a small gig filming monthly short videos for a company. After a few months of doing it I started to feel like I wasn’t enjoying the job as much because I felt pushed to come up with ideas when I always prefer to create when I think of them naturally. Since I wasn’t honest about how I felt to the people I was working for, or even myself, I ended up losing that opportunity and closing that bridge with the company. Ever since then I’ve been super sincere with everyone and super commutative about what I want from a gig and what motivates me creatively.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I make fast paced videos on apps like TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram! It’s definitely one of my favorite things to do and I love every second of it. I wouldn’t be upset if someone told me I’d be doing this for the rest of my life.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing reactions and comments from everyone that watches what I do definitely makes creating worth it. Especially running into people at events or different places that watch what I do. It feels great to connect with people that find what I create interesting to them!

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish earlier on I let go of trying to impress whoever watches what I do and just started to focus on what I actually like to create. I’ve learned that’s what makes projects true to yourself, when you believe in them.
