We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daizhon Cox. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daizhon below.
Hi Daizhon , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Growing up on the South Side of Columbus, I was surrounded by stories of struggle and survival. In a community where many believed that success was out of reach, I felt the weight of expectations. People often told me that kids from our neighborhood didn’t make it to prestigious places like Ohio State, let alone into rooms with elected leaders who held the power to change lives. Yet, deep down, I always believed in the possibility of something different, not just for myself but for everyone around me. It was this belief that pushed me to take a risk—one that would redefine my life and those in my community.
When I decided to apply to Ohio State, it felt daunting. The voices of those who doubted me echoed in my mind, and I had to take a chance not only on the application but also on my potential to thrive in an environment seemingly worlds apart from my own experience. Making the leap into a prestigious college at just 18, I knew I’d have to work ten times harder to prove myself. Yet, being there opened doors I never imagined—like joining discussions with leaders driven to uplift our neighborhoods. It was a whirlwind of opportunities that required me to believe in myself wholeheartedly. The risk paid off; I was able to show others from my community that it’s possible to change the narrative, to defy the odds, and to claim a seat at the table. This journey taught me that taking risks isn’t just about ambition; it’s about lifting us all and reminding others that we are deserving of a brighter future.

Daizhon , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Daizhon Cox, and I am a dedicated 20-year-old student at The Ohio State University, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Political Science. My journey into public service and community engagement stems from a deep-seated commitment to empowering others, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds. Growing up on the South Side of Columbus, I experienced firsthand the challenges faced by many in my community, which ignited my passion for making a tangible difference.
My brand—elevating people—reflects my mission to inspire individuals to realize their full potential and to show them that success is attainable, regardless of their circumstances.
I offer a variety of services and initiatives aimed at fostering community engagement and inclusivity. As a Board Member on the Advisory Panel for the Chief of Police, I bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community, ensuring that the voices of residents are heard in decision-making processes. I have also served as Committee Chairman for the Central Ohio Young Black Democrats, where I mobilize young voters and promote civic participation through events and outreach campaigns. My work at organizations like the Ubuntu Leadership Institute further emphasizes my commitment to mentorship, guiding youth in developing leadership skills and building a sense of community.
What sets me apart is my ability to navigate complex social systems while advocating fiercely for those whose voices are often overlooked. I am proud of the impact I’ve made in such a short time, from my roles in public policy initiatives to coaching young athletes in volleyball, fostering teamwork, and promoting a positive culture. Looking ahead, I want potential clients, followers, and supporters to know that my dedication to public service is unwavering. Every initiative I undertake is grounded in a genuine desire to uplift others and create a more equitable society. Through my work, I strive to demonstrate that believing in oneself is a full-time job—one that can change not only individual lives but entire communities.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation in the market has been bolstered by my passionate commitment to community empowerment, extensive hands-on experience in public service, and my proactive approach to engaging with marginalized groups. My leadership roles and advocacy efforts demonstrate authenticity and dedication, positioning you me a rising voice for meaningful change.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is that the belief that fitting in is important. The real world rewards people who willingly work in collaboration, strategic thinking, and understanding diverse perspectives, rather than sheer effort alone. My work is dedicated to the people and I can’t do it without them.
