Marabelle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
The biggest trend and not in a good way is everyone wants to do it. I sell soaps, lotions, body scrubs and while everyone enjoys scrubs, the issues are people believe they can make them at home, DIY, sell them and not think about the ramifications of selling them to a wider audience without the proper paperwork, certificates, etc.
It’s great when someone wants to be creative and be self-employed or have a side gig. That’s awesome. But the critical thinking process is imperative in order for anyone to see success in their business or side gig. A side gig can turn to a successful empire of a business opportunity – but in order to see success there’s an order to follow so there aren’t missteps.
This doesn’t avoid mistakes, everything we do is a learning curve, however, in the process of learning, we learn from our mistakes and move forward to be a better businessperson and making informed decisions from past mistakes and/or experiences.


Marabelle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I originally began my business endeavors through blogging. I did a lot of writing and through the writing, I started doing YouTube videos.
It was so new at the time, and I didn’t really apply myself in the early process of content creation.
However, though my personal journey and even still, till this day, while I can feel unsure and sometimes discouraged, I keep pushing through and creating and the more I do this, the more confident I feel.
When I first began Servboxx, the initial ideas were not working as well as I thought they would. I did take some time off to redevelop the entire store – not only the products, but the entire site as a whole. I originally had it on one platform and I moved it to another because I found there were options, where I can make the site conducive for the online shopper, plus the perks which are super important for anyone who shops online. As a person who shops online, it’s important to have those perks that not even Amazon offers. I like to include free stuff when my customers order. What’s not to love about a surprise free product! :-)
Ideally I would like to build a physical store, I have some ideas on how to get that going – I will keep it a secret for now. :-)


What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy is consistency. People see your products, if they only see it one time they will not remember. People do not retain as much information as they used to, so in order for you to build trust, you have to be consistent. That consistency builds trust.
This will not favor for all. You will have those customers who will have negative things to say. Those are not the customers anyone should focus on or respond to because what happens with that, it turns into some unnecessary and unwanted drama, especially in his social age.
There’s a way to respond to negativity and that’s connecting with that customer, either through phone call or email and if the issues can be rectified, then do it.
Being humble is the most effective tool for success. It gives you space to learn so it doesn’t happen again. This is not anyone being a pushover, this is you taking control of your business, because if someone is watching from the sidelines thinking they can get away with it too, that’s when you can put your foot down.


How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Have respect for anyone who works with you.
Be open to new ideas, even if they don’t initially work in the present moment. That’s an idea you can shelf for later.
