We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meagan Mckenna. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meagan below.
Meagan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve ever been apart of is the one that I am doing now. My writer Joel LaFlamme and I created a series to help one another get on the map in Hollywood. As great ideas are birthed just how Joel and I attracted eachothers magic, this story to has layers of magic which stems from my real life experiences. We wanted to create a meaningful message with art that is timely, relative and impactul for all families and communities that are neurodiverse. The series currently titled “Triggered” is the telling the story about Neurodiversity from the lens of a caretaker, not only does my protagonist struggle with her own neurodiversity she has a son who is facing his own challenges in a different way. I wish I could share all the crevices of this story to the public , but as I have learned making the process sacred while in development is a practice that has to be honored. I can say this though…
OUR show is a blend of raw emotion, candid conversations, and unexpected laughs, “Triggered” sheds light on the complexities of autism while pushing the boundaries of conventional storytelling. It’s a must watch for those who love thought-provoking content with a side of dark humor. It will plunge you into world of gritty realism, unshackled and unapologetically in your face where even the most seasoned viewer will find themselves involuntarily laughing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
It all started out with an idea: if I escape the world of monotony and boredom and land myself into an environment that stimulates me I will be successful in my life. I wasn’t certain where it came from. It was just an inner calling that where I convinced my parents to let me go to an acting school. Well they let me go to New York City. They said” if you get in, you’re lucky” it was a program that was competitive and well regarded . After I was given the green light with an entrance letter then came the hard part. I learned to live by myself as a teenager while climbing up seven flights of stairs in my apartment building where it was cold and crikety and Iwas lucky if my heater would turn in the blistery winter. Funny enough this was where I discovered my talent I wouldn’t say It was a talent that you could see rather a fearlessness to embody anything and everything on the page no matter in a play in a script that is the very quality that set me apart from all of my peers, there was no looking back for me. I had found what lit me up. The idea of carving out a career was very daunting, especially with my ADHD and MISOPHONIA . If you are reading this, you know the pain that your brain feels every time you have to switch to a different task. I just wanted to scream out loud because it was so overwhelming but it built character and resilience because the only way was to go through it, and that is something that makes me able to navigate anything in my life NOW no matter the task . i remeber the brainbreaking tasks that I had to hop on subways, get off at certain stops get to auditions on time go to casting. to be picked apart and told no to my face or with a half hearted thanks was essential to me and the grit that I have today. My saying is “I dare you to out hustle me”

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is one that will need the strength of a lioness behind it. I want to create a program that schools across the country will adopt , focusing on a neurodiverse cirriculum for kids k-5. I need to find someone with the same passion and drive I have creatively to making the impact and driving people to get educated on how they can change the public school system.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
This is a question that has many answers but I will keep it anecdotal. I had someone that has been in the business for many years well seasoned we call it in this industry he said that I had to pick up the phone and pitch myself like I was the most desirable house on the market. He said that I am realestate and I need to show these people that I am the most expensive corner lot and my value and appreciation numbers will prove it. Looking back I realized that I was doing just that by always elevating myself with better opportunities and and getting more savvy as a business creative. I thought “ if I only I have a certain amount of time and attention that is organized and effective in my day, how can I turn that effort into WINS! The short ANSWER is DISCIPLINE!! The long answer is for another article that takes a deep dive into me.
