We were lucky to catch up with Alpha Koroma recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alpha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
My entrepreneurial journey began with a simple spark of an idea. By nurturing that initial thought with relentless focus and continuous learning, I transformed it into a tangible vision.
Through meticulous market research, industry analysis and experience. I identified the unique needs and desires of my target audience, this is where the thought of “OTMxHoodRock” is birthed. I saw a void where talent that needed help telling their story weren’t able to effectively.
This understanding became the cornerstone of my business strategy.
With unwavering determination and a commitment to excellence, I built a solid foundation for growth. By establishing a clear entity (OTM HoodRock LLC), I laid the groundwork for scalability and future expansion. Every day, I strived to deepen my knowledge and stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring my clients and business remain competitive and relevant.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a creative entrepreneur, I’ve dedicated my career to bridging the gap between artists and their audiences. From music and film to live events and seminars, I’ve had the privilege of shaping narratives that resonate deeply.
My journey began with a passion for empowering artists to share their authentic voices. Through my work with multiple artist, I realized that many talents were struggling to connect with their fans on a meaningful level. This realization led to the birth of OTMxHoodRock (Marketing & Management), a company committed to crafting immersive experiences that not only entertain but also inspire.
At the heart of our approach lies the power of storytelling. By showcasing artists’ unique journeys and creative processes we foster a sense of connection and authenticity that transcends traditional fan engagement. We believe that when audiences can relate to an artist’s story, they become more than just consumers; they become advocates and supporters.
What sets us apart is our ability to transform ordinary events into extraordinary experiences. By blending captivating storytelling with innovative production, we create environments where audiences can truly immerse themselves in the artistry.
I’m immensely proud of the businesses I’ve built(OTMxHoodRock & 13 Entertainment) and the talented team that has made it all possible. Our collective passion and dedication drive us to push boundaries and deliver exceptional results. When people encounter our brands, I want them to know that they’re not just experiencing entertainment; they’re becoming part of a movement.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Our most effective client acquisition strategy has been to captivate audiences and create lasting impressions through our events and artist management services. By consistently delivering exceptional experiences, we’ve cultivated a loyal following that naturally refers us to their networks and colleagues.
Word-of-mouth from satisfied guests and clients and crisp and exciting content posted to our social media accounts has proven to be our most powerful marketing tool.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that you can do everything for artist or talent, but at the end of the day they will make a decision they believe is the correct one. Managing artst you learn that very fast; Here’s an actual situation I can speak on. I manage artist “Daystar”; our team created a marketing campaign to roll out for the beginning of 2024 so this year. We had it set to where we would have Dayystar release certain tracks through out the year leading in to the summer. Dayystar didn’t like the tracks we had selected to be released. So he decided he did not want to be Dayystar any more so he changes his artist name. When he did that I was more than mad because he didn’t see the plans and plays we had already set up for the music that was going to be released.
So a lesson I learned early on is that as a manager its your job to make decisions for the artist to further grow their career; this is still true but I had to unlearn the part that its the ‘manager decision’. No it’s the artists decision to agree with the plan.
