We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alec Cabrera. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alec below.
Alright, Alec thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I started down my path of music just listening like everyone else. We all have songs from childhood that hit us in a special way. I was eventually put in front of the drums by my Dad and I realized I could be a part of the music rather than just a listener.
Knowing what I know now, I always wish I had started earlier, taken more chances and had been less afraid to put myself in front of audiences at a younger age.
The most essential skill is the first one to develop. Listening, you can only affect change in music if you can hear and understand what it is. Often times we are our own obstacle in that manner. I sometimes still get excited in what i’m playing I forget to listen to everything.
Alec, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a musician and drummer of about 15 years now. I got into music after my Dad gave me everything I needed to move forward in developing my skills. I’m currently working with three amazing bands that are all unique and let me express different sides. Those bands are PearlZ, KNETX and Britny Lobas. I am proud and fortunate to work with all the good and talented people involved. More than anything I want everyone to just listen to the music and come to a show! Look us up on Spotify, Youtube and Instagram! Reach out to us and we will always respond!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing society can do to support artists is just to be involved! Go to a show, gallery or showing. Whatever it is go! Buy merch and products from those you artist you really like. Above all else share everything on social media. We need all the help sharing we can get!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to do what makes you happy. No matter what happens in the world nobody and nothing can take that away from you. It’s a power rarely seen and often coveted. We all have the ability to have it, but only some take the chance to earn it.
