Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michal Sosna. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Michal, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I think I was around 14 or 15 at the time. I was really into black and white photography, developing the images myself in a makeshift home darkroom. I even had a few of my photos published back then. But I couldn’t see myself pursuing it full-time—it felt like something was missing. Then, the images in my dreams started moving, and I realized there was something called cinematography. The moment it really clicked for me was when I watched Ingmar Bergman’s Persona in the theater. I was so immersed in the film that I found myself thinking the exact lines of dialogue before the characters even spoke them. That’s when I knew—I was completely in love with moving images.

Michal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Basically, I’m a director of photography for both documentary and feature film projects, but my work goes beyond that. I’d say I’m more of a visual storyteller. I also collaborate with art galleries, create video art, and hold photography exhibitions. My work centers around themes of sensuality, human rights, and light. Lately, I’ve been exploring new ways to tell stories in 3D worlds, which has opened up exciting opportunities for me.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Definitely, there are two connected goals that I see in myself. One is getting to know myself better with each project. The more I understand myself, the better I can relate to people and the world around me. This can happen through intimate video art or experimental projects, but also in larger collaborative film productions.
The second goal is to contribute and add value to other people’s lives and humanity through my work and actions. Whether it’s a documentary or a feature film, I enjoy learning from my collaborators—understanding their goals and helping elevate their ideas, the creative process, or the final product.
As a lecturer at universities, I also aim to unlock students’ creative flow, helping them find their voice and express it through the films they create during our workshops.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes: myself—or more specifically, my intuition. Whenever I stay true to myself, it always seems to lead me in the right direction, whether it’s in small daily decisions or bigger adventures around the world. I’d call it ‘my way.’ It’s not about following an ego-driven path, but more about being open to both others and myself.
