Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Nunn
Hi Andrew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was growing up in Anderson, Indiana, I was the youngest of two sons and considered myself to be naturally introverted. My mother and grandparents have always been a big part of my life, they’ve always supported and encouraged my older brother and me to be disciplined leaders, scholars, free thinkers, innovative creatives, and entrepreneurially motivated. I was inspired by watching and helping my grandparent’s business for rental home renovations thrive in our city. They inspired all of their grandchildren including myself to find our unique talents, then start our own business ventures by utilizing them. Their passion further inspired me to start my own graphic design business once I got to college.
I definitely felt lucky growing up with an older brother. He was my first friend, mentor, and bodyguard when I needed one. We shared a lot of the same things such as hobbies, friends, & teachers in school. I looked up to my older brother as a role model and always wanted to try doing whatever he was doing at the moment. I viewed my brother’s path as the best choice for me to follow since he could warn me to not make his same mistakes. He was a leader, athletically talented in basketball, and had an easy charming personality that made him likable & respected by everyone in high school.
When I got to high school I had many experiences with students, teachers, and coaches, expecting me to be as athletic, outgoing, and self motivated as my older brother. I found myself always falling short to match his results and that became the norm for me. I received a lot of discouragement from individuals during high school and that caused me to become very insecure and I stopped believing in myself. I stopped attempting to do any type of extracurricular activities and I started believing that I wasn’t valuable enough to be talented, seen, or heard. I would count myself out before anyone else could, out of fear of comparisons with my older brother. I became apathetic to sports.
After graduating high school I was blessed to attend college at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. During my time there at ISU, I was able to get away from my regular environment and continued to learn more about myself better while in an entirely new environment, around new individuals who didn’t know me yet. I was able to find myself by rebuilding my confidence in ways that I didn’t know I could. I began my fitness journey and lost more than 60 lbs, and I also utilized that time to figure out my likes and dislikes. After changing my college major 4 times, I realized that my path isn’t going to have a quick and easy to follow gps route but instead, it’s going to be a long and authentic path that allows me to create my impact and legacy that lives on forever. I found joy in Graphic Design because it helped me to express my internalized emotions, see my own uniqueness in myself, and take pride in creating high-quality design work that resonates with the clients I’ve worked with.
I founded my freelance design business called Vision Marketing LLC in 2018 during my Sophomore year of college at Indiana State University. Vision Marketing is a creative agency that strives to design reliable content to better equip our clients for growth. In my graphic design business, I have built a diverse portfolio encompassing digital, print, website, and merchandise design services. Each project presents a unique opportunity to create something that will last longer than myself in the world, blend creativity with functionality, and craft visually compelling solutions.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road on my journey, I’ve struggled heavily with imposter syndrome and external opinions from friends and family. Being an artist doesn’t have a road map and often times it makes me question if I’m taking the right career journey so I had to learn that what’s meant for me is already mine I just have to be present and show up as my unique self.
It took me time to recognize that a lot of my thoughts were influenced by people outside of myself. Not all opinion’s come from a place of support and love, but that’s also because not everyone can see the vision God has placed in me. After realizing this, I stopped seeking others opinions, validations, and I also stopped telling individuals any of my business moves until it was completed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Graphic Designer that loves to create many unique designs. I never try to limit my creativity, so I combine everything I’ve learn into my artwork. I specialize in digital, print, websites, AR Effects, and merchandise design services. I’m known for creating logos, branding packaging, event flyers, music lyric videos/art covers, and merchandise for music artists and record labels.
I’m most proud of my artwork growth, because I don’t box in my creativity and I am always exploring new and creative experiments. What sets me apart from my peers is my vision, even when I’m not working, I’m still creating in my head. I find myself developing ideas throughout the day in my head, especially when I’m inspired by something I see or hear. I keep my sketch book on me at all times just in case I need to write or draw my ideas out in that moment!
