Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Omohundro
Hi Aimee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
During the COVID lockdown, we were all feeling stir crazy! I was bored, scared of my family being affected by COVID, and feeling depressed and lonely for my friends. I had always been interested in resin art, so I bought a little kit from Amazon , watched some YouTube videos, and got started making little keychains.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Learning any craft has ups and downs, and my road has certainly had bumps to overcome. There is a definite learning curve to working with resin and discovering new techniques and tricks. Beside the craft itself, learning to market your art, learning how craft fairs work, and being overjoyed or disappointed at the reception of your pieces are all hurtles to face.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work with resin, both UV and traditional two part resin. I started off using simple molds, making coaster, trays, and cake stands mostly. As I’ve honed my craft, I’ve focused more on using flowers and butterflies to create beautiful jewelry pieces that bring smiles to clients. I have had the opportunity to make breast milk jewelry for several mothers wishing to memorialize their breast feeding journey, which I find beautiful. Another favorite specialty is preserving flowers from wedding or funeral bouquets to protect and preserve memories for clients. My dedication to providing beautiful pieces in a timely manner at an affordable price sets me apart. I want to help people create these memorials in a way that they can afford.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I love what I do. I have a regular desk job that does not inspire a great deal of creativity. Resin art has given me an outlet to be creative, and it has pushed me to be more outgoing. Try something new! You may find a new passion.
