We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Niya Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Niya below.
Alright, Niya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
My first experience earning as a creative was when I attended 2 cannabis festivals during the summer of 2023. The CannaBash Festival was an amazing 1-day festival. I got to meet a couple of well-known artists like Julian Marley and Jolo Reeves! It was the same thing for my second event, which was a Big Cloud 3-day camping event. I met, connected & traded with many different creative artists from all around Michigan. I made a profit at each festival, which made me very proud for my first time vending. I plan to continue vending at different festivals all over Michigan in the upcoming years.
Niya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I offer various services from custom artwork, jewelry & apparel, to guidance on personal relationships, starting your business or spiritual journey & coaching for young models & beginner dancers. As an artist, my goal is to inspire those around me, to tap into their infinite source of passion and express it through unique forms of art. My coaching is all about self-esteem and confidence. As a model and a dancer, being in the spotlight is not easy, so teaching younger students how to overcome their fears is a must. Alongside my passion for art, I’m also a real estate investor. There are so many different services I have to offer that are uniquely tied to my creativity and passions, and that’s what I’m most proud of.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The light that sparks in people’s eyes when they see your creations. How authentic your expression is, can inspire people to be that for themselves. Especially when there’s so much information at your disposal in this era, it’s important to have those things and people who inspire you to be more than who you are today so that you’re always thriving towards true north.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Shifting your life is like giving your computer an update. For me to shift my life in a direction that produced the most peace and fulfillment, I had to make room/clear space for a new mindset, habits & behaviors. Doing so required me to unlearn and relearn a bunch of perspectives, beliefs, and core values I had about the world, my relationships with people, and how I viewed myself. Learning is a continuous process that requires me to be fully present in my body and understand why my thoughts and emotions have such a hold over my decisions in life. Once I passed that point, the real change started to happen in my behavior and what I chose to put my time, energy, and focus towards. I can’t avoid bad experiences, but I can learn how to handle adversity.
