We recently connected with Jennifer Evens and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
As a luxury service provider, it is my goal to provide my clients with a superior experience! My clients receive a personalized experience based on their wants, needs, likes/dislikes to ensure they look back on their time with me with only positive thoughts and feelings.
Before their photo sessions with me, I chat with every potential client to learn about the expectations and answer any questions they may have. Once they book, they receive communications from me about how to prep for their photoshoot, a shopping guide, a link to my client closet (all the things I have on hand that clients can borrow), and more! This helps to ensure that they have all the information necessary to make the most out of their Boudoir experience.
The day of a client’s photoshoot, a personalized sign welcomes them to my private studio, we chat and review clothing options, we may have a mimosa, I do their hair and makeup (when applicable), and then we start their session. Before they leave, they receive a gift bag of goodies from me as a Thank You for their trust in me.
I typically have photos edited within 1-2 weeks. The client will come back to my studio to view their gorgeous images and select their favorites. We start with a slideshow of all their edited images on a 54″ TV while uplifting music plays. After the slide show, we go through every image together to pick favorites and design their products. Digital files are delivered the same day.
When physical items are purchased, I hand deliver them to the client with a handwritten Thank You note and a little gift.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a wife, mom and dog mom. I was in the banking industry for 23 years. Around 18 years into my banking career, I started itching to do something else and decided to study Graphic Design. I completed my courses after about 3 years but I was still working in banking and didn’t necessarily want to get into Graphic Design. It was about this time that I discovered the art of Boudoir photography.
I started by doing selfies at home for my then-boyfriend (now husband.) This led to me wanting to experience a boudoir session, so I googled and booked with the first company that came up on Google. My experience was ok. I liked the images. I would not call the experience “Luxury” like boudoir should be. I felt that the photographer was rushing so she could get to her next client and there wasn’t anything that made me go “Wow! What an amazing experience!” My pictures were fine.
I still loved Boudoir and started following a lot of photographers on social media…it was at this time that I realized I had not chosen the right photographer for me. I continued to practice with selfies and my husband.
One day, I decided that I could be a boudoir photographer. I reached out to some girlfriends to be models for me, booked an AirBnB, things went great, and now 2 years later, I have a private studio, I quit my corporate job and I have added Fine Art Photography to my portfolio. I learned a lot from my first experience and have used that knowledge to give my clients the type of experience that I had expected, but did not receive.
I love Boudoir so much, that I also model for other photographers; I believe in community over competition and love to help support others in their Boudoir journeys.
I am in love with what I do, and want to help women of all ages, shapes, etc to see their beauty! There is nothing better than helping a client feel more comfortable in her skin and helping her self confidence to grow.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
For 18 months, I worked a corporate job full time, and squeezed in my photography work whenever I could. I used the majority of my PTO for photo sessions. Since I was working full time and did not need income from my photography business, I re-invested everything I made back into the business. Securing and furnishing my studio space, upgraded equipment, building my client closet, investing in education, get all my software and CRM needs in place, and so on.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to help women feel better about themselves. From birth, society is always telling women everything they should or should not be. How to look, how to act, what we should weigh, who to marry, when to have kids, etc etc etc. It is not an easy thing to deal with and it definitely impacts our self confidence and feelings of self worth.
My hope is that I help every woman that comes into my studio to regain some of their confidence and worth; I truly believe these changes will have a positive impact on the client’s life.
