We recently connected with Scott & Kayley Southern Huynhs and have shared our conversation below.
Scott & Kayley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
Who doesn’t love vacations, right? We love time away to recharge the batteries but both of us juggling a full-time job in healthcare and pursuing our unconventional job as digital creators can be challenging. However, we make it a priority to take some time off with our family. Time together as a family is the core root of our success and happiness. The benefit of being digital creators is that we can create content while vacationing and building memories with our children. The challenge is that a vacation is never truly a vacation for our family. Each vacation is an opportunity to document our travels, showcase new cultures, and share our food experiences. The way we find balance with this is to set up ‘working days’ while keeping other times as personal time with our family.

Scott & Kayley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Scott was born in the southern region of Vietnam. Scott’s family immigrated to Georgia when Scott was three years old. Raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Scott’s family continues to practice Vietnamese traditions and culture.
Kayley was born and raised in rural Georgia. Never having been outside the country before, Kayley took a leap of faith and pursued a teaching career overseas in Korea. She spent a year in Korea teaching elementary school kids while immersing herself in the culture. There, she found her passion for different cultures.
We met after Scott came home to Atlanta after dental school in Philadelphia and Kayley came back to Georgia after spending time teaching in Korea. Kayley worked as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, fostering our love for travel. We had the best time immersing ourselves in other cultures when we were traveling abroad.
Traveling became less frequent when we settled down and started a family. We were occupied in both of our personal careers, all while juggling family life. We were fortunate that Scott’s mother, Má and sister, Jaclyn (affectionately known by family as Cô Ba), lived very close by to occasionally help with the kids. Going over to their house for dinner was almost a daily occasion because they like to bring the family together through their food. Traditional Vietnamese home meals are rarely found at restaurants. Luckily for us, Má and Jaclyn are amazing chefs!
During a family meal gathering, Kayley recorded Má’s food on her phone camera. She uploaded the video to her social media account and received positive feedback. People enjoyed seeing the food and its preparation, while others were entertained by Kayley’s adventurous palate.
From there, we created our social media channel named Southern Huynhs. The name represents Scott’s family heritage from southern Vietnam and Kayley’s Georgia roots, along with our last name. The channel features vlogging of our family, food and travel.
What sets us apart from other digital creators is our personality. Creating content where our audience can connect with us on a personal level results in an investment in their time to follow along our journey. This investment provides our audience what they seek for in entertainment, nostalgia and relatability when viewing our content.
Not only are we proud of connecting with our audience by providing a glimpse of our everyday life, but the bond that we’re also building as a family is our ultimate success. Time will pass in a blink of an eye; we’re fortunate to live our lives to the fullest. If nothing were to come out of this venture, at least we can look back at the memories of our journey.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a content creator is the connections we have with our viewers. The Vietnam War ended and millions of Vietnamese people seek refuge in all parts of the world. Our content of Vietnamese tradition, culture and food provides our audience with a sense of familiarity of the home that they have left behind. Technology has made the world a much smaller place and through social media, we’re able to reach out to Vietnamese communities worldwide.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal as digital creators is to be able to financially support our way of life while living a life full of adventures with our family. The journey of life can be challenging and with many adversities; we want it to be a path that we’ve created and continuously striving to achieve our dream…….A life of no regrets.
