We were lucky to catch up with Sam Salzman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sam, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?

I am much happier as an artist. I feel incredibly fortunate to have turned my passion into a career. Since my childhood I’ve always known I’d never fit the mold of a traditional job, seeking a career that would allow me to live life and do things on my own terms. With a lifelong passion for art and makeup as well as a love for traditional tattooing, discovering cosmetic tattoos was a turning point – a dream career that seems tailor made for me.

There have definitely been times when I’ve wondered what it would be like to have a traditional job. As a business owner, I think it’s natural to experience moments of uncertainty, especially during slower periods, and wonder the benefits of not having to hustle and ensure a fully booked schedule. When I weigh the advantages and disadvantages of owning my own business though, I find that the positive opportunities far outweigh the negatives. It offers flexibility you wouldn’t find at a traditional job, along with the satisfaction of helping people feel beautiful and the opportunity to make meaningful connections.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Sam Salzman, I’m a cosmetic tattoo artist located in Ventura County, California.

At Inked by Sam Cosmetic Tattoo we offer ombré powder brows, lip blush, and faux freckles being our most popular and sought-after service. Additionally, we offer restorative tattooing such as saline tattoo removal, inkless stretch mark revision, and scar camouflage. Following my certification in early 2023, I established my own business quickly earning recognition for my skills in hyper-realistic faux freckle tattoos and lip blushing. Following a year in the business, I have acquired two licenses and six plus certifications. I strive for ongoing learning and expansion so I can provide the very best for my clients.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

Since a child, I’ve had a love for the beauty and tattoo industry and always felt a deep calling to connect and empower people. I began Inked by Sam Cosmetic Tattoo with the mission of providing a safe and inclusive space for individuals to receive high-quality services. My goal is to enhance people’s daily lives while also giving them the confidence and self-love they deserve.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I am able to help individuals feel beautiful. This career path has given me the privilege of transforming lives through the art of cosmetic and restorative tattooing. By addressing physical insecurities such as loss of brow hair, loss of lip color, stretch marks or scars and other injuries, I equip individuals with the confidence to embrace and love their true selves. There is nothing more rewarding than that!
