We were lucky to catch up with Ayana Aura recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ayana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I started singing at a very young age. But I didn’t start writing my own songs until I was around 10-11 years old. None of the songs made sense at that age lol but to me it was a hit. Honestly, I started music at the perfect time which was 2014. 2014, is when I took music seriously. That’s when I started college and started meeting more artist like myself. I take a lot of breaks when it comes to my music, I wish I didn’t take as many breaks because I could of been further with my music but I see it as a journey not a race. I can only write my music when I feel creative. reasons why I want to move to Atlanta or somewhere where I can be creative and meet more creatives.

Ayana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For anyone who may not know. My name is Ayana Aura. I am a singer songwriter from Harrisburg Pennsylvania whos also a truck driver, yes I drive the big toys lol
I got into music at a very young age and wish it was my career. I’m more of a behind the scenes girly. Being in the public eye makes me nervous but I know that’s what comes with it lol if I could be a songwriter for other artist I’d love that too or even an A&R for new and upcoming artist. What I think sets me apart from other artist is that I’m just naturally me. I’m myself in my music and I choose to inspire others rather than prove I’m better than someone I want someone to listen to
My music and look at me and be like “ I can do that too “ or I “ wanna make music like her “
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I feel like society could just support more in general , maybe give a like or a share for your local artist. It really does help and makes them feel as though they should keep going. Everyone supports well known artist who down know them why not support your local black business or your local black artist and show the same love. Also make more safe spaces for artist to perform !

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding is that I can literally write whatever I want to , whatever is in this brain and heart of mine. I can literally turn how I feel into a song, how cool
Is that. And to be vulnerable as well and unapologetically me. I think that’s dope. It’s also rewarding hearing people tell me they love my music and to keep going it makes me feel very good
