Today we’d like to introduce you to Tesla Chapman
Hi Tesla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my musical career around the age of 16, where i first started putting loops together on a program called Mixcraft. Throughout the years, I studied my craft and learned more techniques to add to my production repertoire. I found out about FL Studio when I was around 19 and when I went to trade school, I properly learned how to use it and have been in love with it since. Since then, I have created multiple albums and landed various placements throughout my career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If I’m being completely honest, it hasn’t been smooth by any means. Not to say that it hasn’t been fun and life-changing, but I’ve been through a fair share of troubles.
A challenge that I find myself facing all of the time is lack of consistency, on all fronts. I usually find myself struggling with putting all of my efforts into my creativity while handling my real life responsibilities. Sometimes, life just gets to going into overdrive and I’ll begrudgingly have to neglect my music and get so locked in to everything else I’ve got going on that music becomes somewhat of an afterthought. Then it leads to a vicious cycle of inconsistency and it’ll get to the point that I don’t want to do anything really. But at the same time, we have to handle our overhead in order to create without having that lingering anxiety. It’s really a catch-22 when you think about it.
Another thing that I struggle with is sacrificing things over my music. I’ve always been a stubborn guy and if I have something on my mind, I’m going to complete it. The problem is, I’ll go so hard in my creativity, I’ll let important things slip. I’ve lost quite a few people, things and opportunities due to being laser-focused, but the idea of the hard work actually paying off makes up for the loss in a sense.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a music producer, rapper, songwriter, and skateboarder who began producing music at 15 with Mixcraft, later mastering FL Studio and drawing inspiration from artists like Pharrell Williams and Flying Lotus. My music career has evolved from producing to rapping, influenced by conscious and underground rap. I’ve gained recognition in the underground scene with collaborations such as working with professional skateboarder Antiferg and creating a soundtrack for the game DUNJUNGUY. I aim for my art to offer an escape and a release from daily life’s challenges for my fans.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel like my perseverance and drive is the most important factor to my success. I’ve been through enough in life to realize that everything will always turn around if you keep going. Along with that, my sociability adds to my success as well. If I wasn’t able to enmesh myself with other people and experiences, I honestly don’t know where I’d be at.
