We recently connected with Liz Sompel and have shared our conversation below.
Liz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero is my grandmother on my mom’s side. She taught me that everyone deserves respect and a chance. Everyone also deserves the same quality of life no matter their situation. I use her as my goal for everything. She did for others and never asked for anything in return. She has invited people over for food that didn’t have any food themselves. She is a selfless woman and a true angel.
She also always told me to follow my heart and my dreams. Which is why I accommodate those who may not be able to afford professional photography. So I make sure they have the same quality but at a more reasonable price for them.

Liz, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Elizabeth Sompel, owner and head photographer at Sompel Photography. I am based out of Scranton, Pennsylvania. I am an affordable professional photographer with over 10 years experience. I love being able to give everyone a chance to have professional pictures taken whether it be portraits or weddings. I do it all at an affordable rate.
I got into this business because of my High School Photography teacher. He really pushed me to do my best and I fell in love with the art of photography. I started off by doing concerts and local band shows to support more local artists and it grew from that to weddings, portraits, and anything under the sun.
I am extremely happy with what I am doing and hope to be doing this for the rest of my life.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My clients telling their friends. And then they tell their friends.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing the face of my client after they get their final pictures. Makes the photo shoot, the crazy positions I get in to get the perfect shot and the hours of perfecting everything in editing all worth it in the end.
