We recently connected with Precious Dixon and have shared our conversation below.
Precious, appreciate you joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
I don’t believe that, asking your friends and family to support your business is a necessary step in success. You will attract the people that want to support your business without asking. I can remember when I first launched my brand on April 7, 2021 being upset that there were certain people that were not in my order list but as I continue to look through hundreds of orders from lunch day, I realized that the success was there and success does not always turn out how you want to turn out it doesn’t need to.

Precious, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Precious Dixon, I like to think that I kicked the door down in the industry. I don’t believe that there was a spot for me, however I believe that I made a spot and sometimes that is necessary. I own Slay Ready cosmetics Corp. and Slay Ready skin. I’m also a master MUA in the beauty industry. I specialize in offering water, waterproof, and sweat proof products to the market. In 2021 no one believed that I had a full line of sweat, proof and waterproof make up as of course, back then as the original home of l waterproof cosmetics it was unbelievable No one had seen it before! With my experience in marketing and directing, I immediately went into marketing mode. I started off by running ads on Facebook where my first ad received over 2 million views it was up from there! I am most proud of myself for remaining true to the core of who I am as a woman and a human being. I always like to say I’m an open book there’s not much you can say about me that you don’t already see. I believe in bringing value to the market through relationships through therapy and healing, which is why I offer daily tutorials via live stream to not only offer products but teach people how to use them.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
If it’s OK, I’m gonna get a little personal here, like I said, previously prior to launching my business I was a finance director in the auto industry, a workhorse if you will. In more detail, I had a career where I was making a quarter million dollars a year, but I realize one day that this was not what I wanted to do. This did not make me happy on a daily basis and it got to the point where I also realize that if I didn’t do what I truly love to do, I may regret it, and of course, time waits for no one. Can you guess what I did if you said quit you’re absolutely right. I walked out of my quarter million dollar job and started immediately on my business with a new fire burning in me within seven months. I was in the top 1% via Shopify. That means that my website was visited the most and purchased from the most within my category!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
While I worked my finance director job, I was planning for one year straight. I went live every day before work building a family that I could have great relationships with when it was time for me to give them my full attention during this year. I was also saving so that I was prepared to invest money into products that I needed. After a year of testing. It was good time.
