We were lucky to catch up with Amy Anderson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Thirteen years ago, when I first entered the world of financial advising, I wasn’t entirely sure it was the right path for me. My background was in political science, having earned a bachelor’s degree in the field, and I had intentionally steered clear of math and business courses throughout my education. From elementary school onward, math had always been a challenge, while I excelled in subjects like English, writing, and philosophy. Needless to say, a career in finance didn’t seem likely—despite the fact that my father owned a successful independent advisory firm in Baton Rouge.
After exploring various sales roles, I discovered a natural talent for connecting with people and simplifying complex topics, particularly in the realm of technology. This prompted me to give financial advising a try by working alongside my father and fully immersing myself in the world of stocks and personal finance. Though I lacked a formal business education, I compensated by devouring every financial book I could find. Eventually, I passed the Series 65 Uniform Investment Advisor Exam, and from that point on, I’ve been deeply involved in the behavioral aspects of finance.
My focus has been understanding why so many people feel intimidated by managing and growing their money. My mission is to show anyone who has questions about retirement, emergency funds, stock selection, or investing that it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Everyone has the opportunity to grow their wealth over time, and no one should let fear or anxiety prevent them from taking control of their financial future. I’m committed to using my experience to help others embark on their journey toward financial freedom and literacy.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m just someone passionate about making personal finance and investing less intimidating for people from all walks of life. I take great pride in our family’s independent firm, where we offer genuine advice without the pressure of a large institution focused primarily on fees. At our core, we are dedicated to our clients and wholeheartedly believe in the work we do as investment advisors and money managers.
When you’re a client of our firm, you’re never just one among thousands like you might be at larger companies like Merrill Lynch or Edward Jones. Our independence allows us to provide a much more personalized, custom-tailored approach for each client’s unique needs.
The firm was founded in 1995 by my father, Andy “B.F.” Anderson (BF/Anderson & Co.), and my partner Matthew and I are proud to carry on his legacy, continuing to guide future generations of investors.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals and word of mouth truly are the best source for new clients. Not everyone is a good fit for our firm and our strategy of investing. Whenever I have done well for a client and word travels, this tends to provide a much better fit than if I were to go out and buy some “list”.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Every client has access to my phone number, email, and Instagram handle (@the.fiscal.fox), making me easily reachable. I pride myself on being a go-to resource for my clients. Even if someone has questions outside my scope, such as taxes, insurance, or real estate, I can connect them with trusted professionals in those fields. I’m very selective about who I refer to, as those recommendations reflect on me and my business.
I love using Instagram as a creative and educational platform. Lately, I’ve noticed an increase in “financial influencers” who, unfortunately, aren’t licensed or regulated, and that really concerns me. I felt the need to establish my own presence on social media to offer clients, friends, and followers a fun and approachable way to learn about investing basics and financial concepts. The old days of radio ads, mail-outs, and cold-calling are behind me. My focus now is on building loyalty through engaging educational videos and posts. And hey, if I gain a new client from it, that’s a bonus!
