We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marth Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marth below.
Marth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I got to work on was also my first acting job that I booked after moving to New York City. As a starting artist you attend many auditions were you could wait hours in line just to not be seen by casting. I was lucky enough to audition for a company called ArtsPower that was a touring company for Theater for Young Audiences. I was told by multiple friends that this company would be a good fit for me, so I continued to show up at all their auditions. I think I had gone to 4 of their open calls before I was asked for a call back. I ended not booking the part but knowing the next time would be my time and it was! When I got the call of them offering me the role I asked if they were serious because I couldn’t believe it. I played Laura Ingall’s in the musical production of Little House on the Prairie and got to travel the United States teaching kids about following your dreams, never giving up and how to live authentically. This contract helped me grow as a human and an actor as well as put me on a path for future contracts and amazing artistic friends.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an actor, photographer creative originally from San Francisco California and moved to New York City in 2017. I have toured the country acting as well as performed off broadway and the Edinburg Fringe festival. I have always loved telling stories and being on stage so I was a performer at a young age. It wasn’t until the pandemic when I decided to pursue a career in photography as another way to bring art to life. Now I not only act but I have an other career as a photographer. Shooting weddings, fashion, families and other Actors, helping them bring to life a vision and help them feel beautiful. With all of that I also offer social media services, management, professional photos and content creation.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Just like for most people the pandemic was truly a time for all of us to look at life and really check in with ourselves and how we wanted to live life. I was strictly an Actor and didn’t really know what else I could do if I couldn’t act. Because of this I was searching for a way to create, to connect with others. How do I tell stories without being able to be on stage. This is when I really started to stumble into photography. I was creating self portraits based on colors or phrases and I would post them on instagram. Trying to help people feel something other that stress from the state of the world. After that when things started opening up again I reached out to other creators to collaborate on photography projects wether it be creative or fashion based. Now 4 years later I am a professional photographer as well as an Actor and I love to create and help others feel beautiful through photography.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the collaboration. With acting on stage or in film you are given the premission to be so open and vulnerable with the people you are working with. It’s really such a rare and beautiful thing that I am honored to have with so many amazing people. For Photography there is also a sense of vulnerability and trust that comes from allowing me to capture some of the most important moments in life. It’s rewarding and so special to be a part of these moments.
