We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Victoria Rose Hasson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Victoria Rose below.
Victoria Rose, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I have been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to host my own show in LA. I’m incredibly passionate about community and how important it is to lean into and on each other in the music industry so I’ve strategically created the LA Seen to remind us of just that. The LA Seen is a songwriter round deigned with vulnerability in mind. Intentionally chosen artists are given the opportunity to share their songs and stories in a stripped down format to a wonderfully attentive audience. It’s been a really beautiful monthly event that is also free and starts at 8pm downtown on a Tuesday so parking is free as well!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been an artist/songwriter since I was a kid and have never had a plan b! Over the last few years, I’ve discovered my love for teaching and am now a certified voice coach in Los Angeles. I offer in-person as well as virtual lessons that are specifically catered to you as a singer and your own authentic sound and goals.
My certification is through Brett Manning (a mentor and good friend) who’s worked with countless award winning artists such as Hayley Williams of Paramore, Leona Lewis and Jelly Roll. I swear by his methodology as it has transformed and maintained my own voice since I was 15 years old.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have had to overcome a lot of obstacles in my journey as an independent artist and now an independent vocal coach as well. Before I moved to LA, I went through a divorce that left me with nothing I had built over the years I was married. I was brand new to LA with no income and no guarantees. I also had a few voices in my life that were strongly against me starting a business (vocal coaching) and the risks that entailed. I’m still so thankful that I chose to lean into the unknown and grow my business from the ground up. There were many days, weeks and months that deeply tested my ability to keep going, both professionally and personally. Los Angeles is one of the harder cities to build community and hustle in as simply living here is so expensive. I owe a massive thank you to many beautiful people who trusted me with their voices, encouraged me when things looked less than hopeful and spread the word when I didn’t have enough students to pay my rent.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Reading has been essential to my growth as a business owner, artist and person! I could go on and on about amazing books that have helped me along my journey but to narrow it down, here are my top 3:
The War of Art by Steven Pressfield- this book will wake you up to exactly how many insidious ways we sabotage our creative endeavors. It’s helped me power through writer’s block and procrastination like nothing else ever has!
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*** by Mark Manson- this book helped me realize and solidify that music was definitely the right path for me professionally. It helps you zero in on what you’re willing to be in pain over (because we will always have degrees of pain with any chosen path)
Atomic Habits by James Clear- this book helped me notice all the small ways I was making my life more difficult and the ways I was making it more fulfilling.
