We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Clontz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
From a business perspective I would like to leave a legacy of following their dreams while honor their obligations. Growing up I wanted to be a professional sports player. When I got in high school I quickly figured out that was not realistic for me. Once I got in college, in 2002, I decided I wanted to be in a business involving sports. As life happened, getting married and raising children, I put that on hold and sort of forgot about it. Around 2 years ago Gary Vaynerchuk, who I follow on social media, inspired me to attempt this. He reminded me with a post that I am not to old to follow a dream and that it is something that is realistic with a lot of hard work. I am following my dream while at the same time making sure I am still focused on providing for the needs of my family. That means at the moment I am working a full time job while trying to build a business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Brandon Clontz. I am 40 years old and work for a furniture warehouse Distribution Center. I have been with that company for around 6 years and prior to that I was with a major company in the shipping industry for 10 years. Most of that time has been in mid level leadership positions.
From a child I was a huge sports fan. As a youth instead of watching cartoons I spent time watching Sportscenter. Going into my teenage years I had a closet full of sports jerseys. When getting the inspiration of trying a sports related business 2 years ago jerseys were the first thing I thought of. My goal is to provide a real jersey to a person at a reasonable price. I know for someone my age when you get a players jersey, you followed, it brings back childhood memories. Also it brings the next generation into the love of sports and jerseys. Long term as I grow my business, and increase sales, I am aiming for a contract with major companies such as Nike, Adidas, and Mitchell and Ness. Once again enabling me even easier to provide a great jersey to a customer at a reasonable price. What you see in most stores today is not a reasonable price for most of the public.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My business is a work in progress. I am still early on in this process but over the 2 years of doing this I know being as open and honest with your clientele and following through on what you say has helped me. For a very small business, like myself, word of mouth has helped. That only comes from treating the customer how you want to be treated and trying to be aware of what they want out of this process.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
So far my best source of new clients has been current clients. Going back to a previous question being as open and honest about all I can with my customers has created opportunities in which they tell a friend or family member about me when looking for jerseys.
