Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sheilandria Wells. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sheilandria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I originally came up with my business name This Growing Mama Homeschool from a Facebook page I started during what I thought was my 6th pregnancy. ( I ended up having twins) I started the Facebook page to document my pregnancy journey but only made a few post on the page. For some reason I never took the page down, but a few months postpartum I remembered that I still had the page, and slowly started posting updates on the twins and uploaded a few mini vlogs. During this time I also decided to homeschool my kids, one of which is on the Autism Spectrum and is for the most part nonverbal ( his speech is improving). A few months into homeschooling I started making learning materials for him. I started with a busy book because he is a very hands on learner. Then I started making tracing materials for him and other kids. After a while I started posting our homeschool journey and the materials. I would post my vlogs and ideas on Youtube and TikTok and people responded and really like the materials. About a month or so later I started This Growing Mama Homeschool and sell my materials on TikTok and some items on my website.

Sheilandria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Sheilandria Wells, I’m a stay at home mom to seven kids and we are a special needs homeschool family. I started my small business last year, This Growing Mama Homeschool. I make custom busy books, workbooks, coloring books and dry erase workbook. I came up with the idea from materials I made for my kids and decided to sell them. I can customize the busy books any way you would like. Some parents use them as a speech therapy tool at home for their kids. I am so happy and proud when parents send me videos of their kids using the materials I made for them.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source of new clients for me would be social media. Taking the time to post often really helped me get most of my sales.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.

I sell my materials on my website, TikTok and market on Facebook and Instagram. The pro to this is the exposure you get when try to generate sales and reach new audiences. The con for me is having to stay consistent and post every day to keep that going, It can be really difficult at times, having so many kids and homeschooling.
