We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Contraband. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Contraband below.
Contraband, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
At this Moment, my Most Meaningful project is my most recent project “Dope Tales’ (the Album). My main Idea was to make a project from beginning to end of music I orchestrated over beats I produced. It started off as a way to challenge my self to be a more creative artist ,experimenting with what I have to make something new.
It was an inspiring effort because I started making music to my beats again. I have ben producing for years making beats since high school , but being around other producers that was great made my ease up on the instrumental side. Not to Say I was not Good But they were Just better . So the Comfort of having producers sat in, and i being to not use as many of my beats.
In the studio with that mind set I begin to crank out songs such as “Jumped off the Porch, and “4rFR”, but I knew I had something great on my hands when I released “No Letting Go”. I wanted to let the world to hear a the new song I was working on so I release the Dope Tales EP. While preforming track from my EP I was recording tapped in with Super engineer Kaloni on the Beat and really turnt up. Not only did we ensure every track was quality when making it , we even went back to remaster the tracks from the EP.
Inspiration grew and after I record “1Way 2Swang” I knew the album was ready for the world stage. During the breaks I invested to in rebrand and educate my self on Marketing . I was able to practice what I learn and apply it to my project, but mainly was the music I was proud of. Along side with visuals for every song on the album is a big thing to accomplishment from an artist with any status .From top to bottom the album is stacked with tracks that any body can vibe to everywhere. Major Love to every one that played a Part Big or Small .

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I go by Contraband , I’m an Artist ,Producer , CEO and Founder from Contraband Music Group. I broke into the industry but just being different and professional. People tend to remember you if you give them something physical, and when I performed I always had something, Rather it was a CD ,Flyer, USB, Shirt or something . Beside the physicals I actually had good music ,so i find my self bein in winning positions because of the fact that my music is dope .
I landing in a great position when I was working at a studio on the north side OF HOUSTON called “the enclave”. At the studio they held a opening mic night every Wednesday, This was great because I couldn’t get music out to the people , so having the people to come to me was prefect. I would challenge my self every week to have a new song ready and see the crowd reaction to the songs I preformed.
The Brand CBMG during Time was also being molded, Seeing how a record label works I ran my brand the same, Specializing in all thing dealing with Artist development, and applied it to my self . Actually being a Artist, Producer and CEO I see how things are from all angels and adjust to make all sides to agree on business.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
A big goal of mine is to go gold independently . That accomplishment will stamp my place in music , also giving recognition to the feature artist I had on the Album . The result will give plaques to everyone involve including my Engineer and my Director. It will be a great look for the city increasing everyone’s stock in the process ,to give my city (Houston) the platform it rightfully deserve. The bigger picture shows that its bigger than me , the most remembered artist me to are the artist that leave a trail of influenced,

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve learned that cross promo is a big thing. The main way to track you influence is to check the socials all across the board, such as Instagram ,YouTube, and etc.. Using one social to promo the other is a great way to gain an audience all around the board.
Speaking about your new YouTube video on Instagram or shouting out you twitter on YouTube. Now more often common methods is to chop things up since social is more geared toward short media .I use reels and pics to promo my YouTube , and have a link in my videos to my Ingram .
