We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Valeria Sarto. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Valeria below.
Valeria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I’ve always loved the way photography immortalizes time; the way we look back on not only the great photographers but also those taken by family members, and get a peak into the way of living at that place and time that has now evolved. I want my photographs to do the same thing, to allow people to get a glimpse of the past.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a multidisciplinary artist and photographer with a specialization in film photography and argentique processes. I would characterize my style by a sense of nostalgia and inspired by everyday scenarios. I romanticize the world and bring the nouns (people, places, things) to life.
With Peruvian-Italian background, I was born on Miami Beach where I grew up for practically all my life. Currently, I’m living and working in Paris, FR where I plan to expand my career while also creating relationships between US clients and Europe.
I learned about photography in the darkroom, hand developing and hand printing my own images when I was about 14 years old and fell in love with the peaceful and present experience. With a love for street and snapshot photography, I captured daily life and had no idea I wanted to be a photographer.
Fortunately, the work sort of presented itself to me and I now apply this eye to my work across genres of fashion, travel and lifestyle.
Currently, I’m being represented by Kintzing Licensing, where clients can buy the rights to use my personal images for editorial and commercial projects. I adore this aspect of my work because it allows me to use my authentic photos for a wider meaning. If you’re interested in licensing any of my work, you can contact [email protected]
While a lot of my work is within the commercial realm of photography, I set time apart to dive into personal projects and have had recent success with my body of work titled ‘À La Folie.’ One piece was originally curated for an exhibition during Paris Photo 2023, which led to the full solo exhibition in Miami at 444 Studios and the launch of my photo book, and curated for an exhibition in Berlin at Galeria Azur. The representation at the Berlin gallery put me on Artsy, where you can currently inquire to purchase any of the pieces from ‘À La Folie.’
I plan to continue working between the worlds of art and commerce, and I’m grateful to do what I love.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being an artist allows me to create the world I want to live in and allow myself to be inspired by it, create stories and share them. The most rewarding is when I tug on someone’s heart string and they feel it too.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Creatives don’t conform to traditional approaches, they create their own. I think that can be confusing if you are more logical and follow the rules. Breaking the rules and creating your own works (as long as one has the grit to make it work).
