We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mica Hyche a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
Hi,
I had two situations that financially CO$T me and they both went bad at the same time, with people that I thought I could trust. One was a real estate transaction and the other was a personal business transaction. I cried, couldn’t forgive myself for dropping the ball and not crossing my t’s and dotting my i’s.
I thought I was a failure for moving too fast and being so trusting. Then I was advised to look at it from a different set of lens and perspective. After that, I realized that I didn’t lose, I paid for lessons. That I never lose I always learn and still win. I had to heal, let go and move on because anything that costs me my peace was too expensive. Then I created ways to generate what I lost and that made me even more excited about the experience versus sad. I understand my value, skill-set and worth when it comes to people I never meet a stranger. I’m really a shining light as my husband (Rodney Hyche) always tells me. So I’m mindful of who I do business with and I always want my customers/clients/co-op agents/business partners etc to love, like, and trust me. I want my business relationships and real estate business to be a WOW Experience versus a simple transaction.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In short, I got into the real estate industry after losing my Corporate America job due to getting a DUI. YES! I’m finally FREE to say that without public shame or embarrassment. Real Estate was my bounce back career when no one would hire me. I decided to hire myself because I will never fire myself. I solve residential and commercial real estate problems for families, business owners and people looking to relocate and/or make an environmental change within their business or home.
I always want people to know that I CAN RELATE to their situation!! Because of my own personal life experiences that create changes in living. Such as, Divorce, Bankruptcy, Single Parent, Married and more they all have developed me to adapt to different personalities and obtain results. I’m an overcomer, and very optimistic, so I know that miracles still happen and God is able to do anything but fail.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
Hello,
I had a client that worked with another realtor prior to working with me. She was sharing with one of previous clients that she had been outbid by the market and losing on every offer that her and her previous realtor submitted. So my previous client highly recommended me and referred her to Mica Relates Home Selling Team. I immediately started to find out how I can meet her at the point of her needs. She had one requirement that was very important. That was to live near her grandmother who suffered from dementia. I could relate! There were two communities that were of interest and only one home for sale at that time. We viewed the home and got under contract, did a home inspection and appraisal and was headed to closing. Until 9 days prior to closing the seller changed their mind and decided that they did not want to sell the home any longer. My client and I were both shocked and devastated to hear the news. I decided to mail 201 personal letters explaining her story along with her pre-approval letter to two subdivision home owners. I received a call from a owner that was in another state, had a tenant in place and wanted to sell. It was perfect because the tenant was willing to move. My client went under contract for the second time and this was a better home than the first home. She closed and it ended as a happy story. I sent those letters in April, she closed in May and then in July I received a call from another seller that saved the letter for months. I took a marketing risk that resulted in business growth and happy clients.

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met my eXp sponsor/business partner Levi McDonald in 2019. I would see his real estate signs in yards as I rode down the Atlanta streets and even showed one of his listings to a client one day. I went into one of my mortgage lenders office and Levi walked in at the same time. She introduced us and of course we started talking about eXp Realty. But no one knew at the time that I had recently left eXp Realty and it caught Levi by surprise. He asked if we could meet and he tell me more about eXp Realty Honey Badger Nation and the NAEA real estate coaching platform. He explained that the resources may heal some of my pain points in real estate. I hadn’t had my real estate license for a full year at the time. But I knew I needed more since it was a new industry for me. Levi and I met in his office and he pulled up a large projector and showed me some valuable tools. I was really impressed and sold to come back to eXp Realty under Levi’s sponsorship so I could take advantage of the NAEA and Hone Badger Nation coaching platform. After my first year back to eXp Realty and leaning in to the Honey Badger mastermind groups etc. My production grew, but most importantly I grew as a business owner and real estate advisor. I received two certifications from the NAEA the certified home buying advisor and the certified home selling advisor certifications. Then I became a eXp certified mentor, eXp express cash offers agent, grew my agent equity account of eXp stock and my eXp revenue share partnering agents. Outside of eXp Realty I was acknowledged as a Atlanta Realtors Association Top Producer Top 10% individual volume and Top 5% individual units. Basically, that one conversation changed my life and so many others that follow behind me. Thank you Levi!!
