Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ariana Solis Gomez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ariana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
At Second Labels, we’re not just about fashion – we’re about empowerment, community, and making sustainable style accessible to all. Our consignment services not only support shoppers looking for affordable, quality pieces but also provide a vital income stream for sellers, many of whom are women seeking to support their families, fund their education, or simply earn extra money in challenging times.
Sustainability shouldn’t be exclusive to those with disposable income. By encouraging people to buy second-hand, we’re promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle accessible to everyone. Second Labels turns fast fashion on its head, making sustainability affordable and practical for all communities, especially those disproportionately impacted by environmental harm.
At Second Labels, we’re not just selling clothes-we’re building a movement. We’re creating a space where underserved populations can not only participate in but also benefit from the sustainable fashion movement. It’s about more than buying or selling clothes – it’s about fostering a community centered on conscious consumption, equity, and resourcefulness.

Ariana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey there, I’m Ari – a proud Latina living in the Nashville metro area. By day, I’m a communications executive with over 15 years of experience in multicultural communications, marketing, and PR. But beyond my professional life, I’m an avid thrifter and a strong advocate for sustainable fashion.
Fashion, for me, is more than just what we wear. It’s a powerful tool for self-expression, creativity, and empowerment. From a young age, I’ve been fascinated by how fashion allows us to tell our unique stories. That passion, combined with my commitment to community and equity, is what inspired me to create Second Labels.
What sets us apart at Second Labels is our unwavering commitment to equity and accessibility. We firmly believe that sustainability should not be a luxury reserved for those with disposable income. Through our carefully curated pop-up events and our online consignment service, we are democratizing sustainable fashion, making it affordable, inclusive, and accessible to all.
I’m incredibly proud of the space we’re building – one that not only offers amazing fashion finds but also fosters a community of conscious consumers who value equity, sustainability, and creativity.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After 15 years of a very successful career in communications and PR, I reached a point where burnout hit me hard. I was managing large teams, leading major campaigns, and working with incredible clients, but the pace and pressure eventually took their toll. I realized I needed to make a change – not just for my mental and emotional health but to align my work with my personal values and passions.
That’s when I decided to take a bold step and start my own businesses. My first business, Unconventional Tactics, was born out of my deep desire to build something that reflected who I am at my core – someone who believes in disrupting the norm, in authenticity, and in creating impact through strategic communications. It’s a consulting firm that focuses on bridging the gap between internal company cultures and evolving consumer demands, especially around diversity and inclusion.
But I didn’t stop there. My second pivot came with Second Labels, my second baby. As an avid thrifter and lover of sustainable fashion, I wanted to create a platform that not only promoted eco-friendly style but also empowered women by providing them with an opportunity to earn money through consignment. Second Labels is about community, sustainability, and equity – everything I care deeply about.
This pivot wasn’t just a career shift; it was a life shift. It allowed me to reconnect with what truly drives me: empowering others, fostering community, and promoting sustainability in ways that feel authentic and fulfilling.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I lived in Washington, D.C. for 12 years before moving to Nashville, where I’ve been for the past two years. Even though I’m relatively new to this city, the best source of new clients has been leveraging my network and word of mouth. The relationships I built over the years in D.C. have been invaluable, and I’ve been fortunate enough to maintain strong connections that continue to refer new opportunities my way.
In Nashville, I’ve been able to tap into new circles and communities, and it’s amazing how quickly word of mouth can spread when you’re doing work you’re passionate about. Building genuine connections and delivering results for my clients has been key to generating those referrals.
