We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joshua Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Some of the latest trends I’m seeing in my industry is A.I. and mobile recordings. It brings up concerns due to increase competition and a weak economy causing industry pricing to plummet. It brings new opportunities to change business models and adapt to the changing technologies in the industry. Thus we created Sound Fix App, an app that allows musicians to have their song mastered for free by our AI app. It also scans and analyzes audio track for feedback on quality of sound. We believe the music industry will never die, but they way musicians record music will.

Joshua, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been making music since I was a kid and I’ve been on the Atlanta music scene since like 2013. I saw how the music industry operated and saw how the people in it operated. A lot has changed since then when the DJ’s lost their leverage internet platforms. In 2020 after covid I decide to open Studio 194, a recording studio, to provide affordable and professional quality recording to upcoming artists. We have a home vibe with a family like culture that allows our clients to enjoy coming to the studio and feeling like they’re at home. We tell potential clients that our quality and prices is unmatched.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes, their’s a lot of starter books I would recommend like “The Great CEO Within” by Matt Mochary or “Built to Last” by Jim Collins. But then you need to understand mindset and one of many favorite books is “Only the Paranoid Survive” by Andrew S Grove. It talks about a forever changing world due to new technology advances and how to handle them. It was also the first time I heard about the concept of vertical integration.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
So I’m always learning new lessons still to this day. But one lesson I would like to share with fellow business owners is that its important to manage your well being. Sometimes, as the years past we get used to dealing with the chaos and that we don’t relies the stress we endure. I got really sick a couple of months ago and caught the shingles. It was at that point I realize I needed to focus on whats important and what really matters.
