We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tymisha Robinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tymisha, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
“Stella Scrub Wear” was created from a conversation with my late grandmother, whose strength and dedication shaped my life. As a dental assistant, I knew I wanted to do something meaningful within my field but wasn’t interested in climbing the traditional career ladder. My grandmother and I dreamed up creating scrubs that would reflect who I am—a Black woman, a proud business owner, and someone who values both affordability and style.
Stella Scrub Wear isn’t just about making scrubs; it’s about honoring my grandmother’s legacy and empowering healthcare professionals like you. Our scrubs are designed to fit and feel different because they’re made with the understanding that everyone deserves to look good, feel comfortable, and be confident in their workwear. Stella Scrub Wear is my way of giving back to the healthcare community, offering scrubs that are affordable, fashionable, and, most importantly, made with love and purpose.

The founder of StellaScrubWear is a Mother of two (a boy and a girl) and has been a dental assistant for 7 years. Throughout her years of dentistry, she decided to come up with a brand of scrubs. Not just any scrubs but good quality, comfortable, and fashionable scrubs. When working in the healthcare field whether as a dental assistant, nurse, doctor, esthetician, etc., you want to be comfortable during your shift. When you look good, you feel even better. StellaScrubWear is here to help you feel confident while working.
Our distribution strategy focuses on an online platform where customers can easily order scrubs through our website. For local customers, we provide a pickup option, enabling them to collect their orders directly and save on shipping costs. This approach offers both flexibility and convenience for all our customers.
We set ourselves apart from competitors by providing high-quality, affordable scrubs that blend comfort, durability, and style. While many competitors focus on either quality or price, we achieve a balance, ensuring our scrubs are both cost-effective and long-lasting. Additionally, we offer flexible payment options for customers who prefer to pay in installments. We are also developing a rewards program where customers can earn points with each purchase, which can be redeemed for discounts, percentage off, or even a free set of scrubs.
Our business supports the community by providing affordable, high-quality medical scrubs to healthcare professionals. We alleviate their financial burden and enhance satisfaction through flexible payment options and a rewards program, setting a high standard for both affordability and quality in the industry
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
When starting Stella Scrub Wear, I had no prior manufacturing experience, so I focused on thorough research to find the right vendor. I asked many questions, verified potential partners through video chats, and carefully checked their credentials. Once I received and loved the sample from my chosen vendor, I knew I had found the right fit. Today, I’m still grateful for this trusted partnership, which has been key to our success.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for Stella Scrub Wear has been word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied customers and healthcare professionals. Their positive feedback and recommendations have been invaluable in building trust and expanding our client base. Additionally, targeted social media marketing and partnerships with healthcare facilities have also played a significant role in attracting new clients.
