We were lucky to catch up with Christine Lozano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christine, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Take a risk on YOU. I decided after many years of trying to act and get gigs that I would do “other”artistic avenues. I figured, I’m getting older, why go back into acting, acting is a young persons game etc.etc..I decided to broaden my horizons and start auditioning for things Outside of LA. I would submit myself via Actors Access and look at castings from other states. Low and behold I got noticed and now have representation. LA is great don’t get me wrong, but we need to have a better support system to get movies done here, to show that LA has a diverse set of people and not everyone looks like a Barbie. To film movies here is very very expensive hence why everyone is doing movies elsewhere. We need to bring back the movie business to LA and support Indie film and do better on making permits less expensive so everyone can feel like they can film here more responsibly.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello! My name is Christine Lozano. I am an artist. Photographer, actor, writer. I am from El Paso, Tx and been in LA for over thirty years. I started out as a photographer, self taught and then auditioned for and got accepted into The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. I am a proud Sag union member, and I’m looking forward to what the future holds. I just produced my first movie and currently will be participating in a 24 hour film festival in Texas in October. Besides that I have a book out called The Viper Room 1995-2004 which encapsulates the scene in its heyday. We are also currently touring with photos from the book around the U.S and hopefully will expand overseas. We have had gallery openings in Los Angeles and Texas and will be doing one in New York next year! Check out the website! Viperroomphotos.com. Very proud of this to say the least.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I have had this conversation with various members of my family. There is no age, absolutely no age cut off when you stop being an artist and give it up because “you haven’t made it yet”. No matter what age you are…keep going. Never give up. You don’t do this for the money. Your creative because you have to be, you need to be. Look, Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Guggenheim Museum at age 91, Agatha Christie wrote until she was 86. Just do you’re work and be good at it.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is just to do. Just do my art, whether it be acting or showing my photos in galleries around the world. Just to know that I never gave up no matter the circumstances. Like I said before, You only have one life, don’t waste it with regrets. Live. Don’t ever compare yourself to others, you’re on your OWN journey.
