Imani, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

My mom gets the credit for giving me the idea! She said to me as I was making a gift basket for my sister, for her birthday, “if only you could do a gift basket business and make them for people.” That idea hadn’t left my head so I decided to go for it and start a small business!
I thought about gifting and I realize it can be a struggle for people sometimes, but I personally love it! If I can take that hassle out and do the gift shopping, organizing, curating and delivery and make it a business that would be really fun & helplful for those that maybe don’t have time to get gifts or can’t figure out exactly what to get! So I really have to credit my mom for the idea, I’m excited to have jumped on it and am hoping to build more and more customers and following as time goes on!

Happiness Unboxed was founded out of a love for gifting!
We provide curated and customizable gift boxes as well as other gifting goodies (gift tags, cards, products that can be added to any gift box, ribbon, etc…) We have a small selection of pre-made, curated, themed gift boxes, and this changes with the seasons. More are going to be added soon as well! Then you can also choose our completely customizable gift box option! We can work with any budget, theme, or idea! You fill out our custom gift box curation form in your cart and once you place the order we’ll see the form! From there we can start collaborating on making a perfect and custom gift basket for any occasion! Once we are closer to finishing the basket, we may inquire about delivery methods and dates and we will send an invoice to you regarding final price! The gift box gets either shipped or delivered to whoever your recipient is, or yourself and bam, finished!
We offer direct delivery, through shipping or delivery from myself to your gift recipient or yourself. We provide delivery within Salt Lake County for free, a small delivery fee for neighboring counties in Utah, and reasonable shipping prices!
What sets us apart is that we try to choose most of our products from other small businesses to showcase their unique items and brands! We curate one of a kind gifts that bring happiness to anyone who unboxes! We are a minority, women-owned business as well as self funded!
Our goal is for people to unbox some happiness and to leave lasting smiles with our gift boxes!

I sell on my own website,

I chose my own site because of the products I acquire for my gift boxes! Using the platform Faire, you can buy products from small businesses on that site to sell for your own business! So I pick from items there and curate a box to then sell on my own site! Using Faire, I have to be able to sell on my own site for ecommerce. They don’t allow the reselling on Amazon or Etsy.
I love using them because they have a variety of unique and fun brands, that have wonderful, high-quality items i’ve loved and it creates a unique and worthwhile gift box!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

I am still in the beginning stages of small business! With that has come challenges, every day!
There are days when I get no sales and times when I want to back down but I tell myself to keep going, and I have the best support from my husband, family and friends to keep going and to not give up! It can take a while for a business to get off the ground, so I am learning patience, determination, and discipline in these beginning small business stages!
It has had bumps in the road, and times where I’m not sure if I can make it big within the gifting business but I sure am trying to! With my perseverance and determination I have and will keep trying to promote my business and my love of gifting so that I can share it with others and hopefully one day make it a full-time gig for me!
I will keep sharing my vision and my gift giving abilities and I believe I can get more & more people to use my services and order from my site because I believe my business is unique, helpful, and vibrant.
