Today, we’d like to introduce you to Danella Sparks. Danella was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Zollyann Howell.
Hi Danella , we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
My childhood dream was birthed during COVID-19, I call this part of my life “beauty in chaos.” The school where I was working as an assistant director closed due to COVID. I needed to maintain and the only thing I know is childcare. So, I took $500 and bought a bunch of kids’ materials to set up the first level of my then home. I handed out flyers and posted in mom groups, and before you knew it, I started getting calls tours, etc. The demand kept increasing and I knew at that point I couldn’t turn away from following my dreams.
I contacted a realtor who then gathered a few properties (this is the hardest part of my journey. (Finding a building, due to stipulations and state regulations)
We had nos and yes, the yes’s came with pricey fees due to having to get the building up to coding. I decided to hold off because I believe God will work it out. Once he gives you a vision I believe he will provide all the tools you need.
Fast forward 3 years later I am the owner of two childcare facilities one being a cater to kids who are differently able.
This road hasn’t been easy but it is worth.
Please tell us more about your brand, Sparks Learning Academy
We provide high-quality childcare to working families in our community. What sets us apart is our family-oriented center. We are a small center, therefore everyone pretty much knows each other. Everyone including parents always says it feels like a “Family” “warm” and “welcoming” hearing that is a standard on its own. I am proud to see when I go on social media families are speaking highly of the center. I am not saying that we are perfect, but we strive to create an environment where staff, parents, and children feel safe, loved, and safe to be themselves.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Zollyann Howell and Books by Zee and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Books by Zee.
Remember when I said “Beauty in chaos” here again another beautiful friendship/sisterhood was birthed during COVID.
I came across Zollyann’s page and thought to myself what she stands behind (Brand) is pretty dope. So I hit that follow button and it’s just been an amazing friendship since.
Our first collaboration was me inviting her on my podcast and it was right there and then I saw that she has a beautiful soul, and great energy and she truly had a passion for what she does.
I was then invited to be one of her panelists on her “Mindset Mixer event” which was another networking event for women. (Her being intentional about women working together and learning from each other)
I read her books which has helped me with self-growth. I purchased her children’s affirmation books for my daycare kiddos which they absolutely love.
I was more taken aback by her drive to see women working together (especially in these times). It’s honestly refreshing.
I have no doubt that if women came together and worked, we could continuously keep breaking the glass ceiling.
