We were lucky to catch up with Latesha Roche recently and have shared our conversation below.
Latesha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
If I could go back in time, I definitely would have started my creative career sooner. I started my creative career in 2020 during Covid, which was a prime time of us not being able to interact with anyone in person and everything resulted to being online. At this time in my life, I was working at a retirement home and had taken a stress leave due to caring for my mom and fear of me bringing home the virus. During that leave, I decided to look for ways to potentially make money on the side, but as well as learning to be more creative in my spare time. I think that if I had started my creative career sooner like when I was in high school making a little videos that could’ve been YouTube videos, I could’ve had the chance to start building my platform as a influencer or content creator from years ago, and just showing my talents and my skills and what I have to offer and also making myself a household name a lot sooner than later. I feel like the only thing I would have changed about my experience in starting sooner is not being shy and being more confident and knowing what it was that I really wanted to do and knowing that it was something that I loved and enjoyed doing. Also I feel though at that time I was not aware as to how far my creative career could take me and now that I am seeing the ways of which the world has changed, I feel like if I had started sooner than later I could be further in my creative career.
Latesha , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For people who don’t know about me I went to college and got my diploma as a social service worker which I am now in university pursuing my bachelor’s and master’s degree in sociology and during this time I have stepped into the industry of content creating an influencing through platforms, such as Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and more. I create video as well as pictures to help market products or services to my followers in hopes to bring brand awareness to the products and services that these brands have to offer as well, hoping to solve any problems for any of my followers that they may be facing in hopes that the products or services that I am creating content about speaks to their true self and their life experiences and ways to help make things a bit easier for them. I think what sets me apart from others is how down-to-earth I am and that the vibe and aura I showcase online is what you will see in person and nothing less but according to most my vibe is even better in person. What I am most proud of is knowing that in the last four years I was able to start my influencing/content creating career and have gotten recognized by some of the most top name brands that I’ve grown up using or knowing about as well as new brands that have just launched and been given the opportunity to work alongside them or collaborate with them and creating content for their brand. What I want potential followers to know about me is that I am someone that is looking to build a community in hopes to help others follow their dream and becoming an influencer or content creator. I want to be able to be an asset to the newcomers in this industry and giving them little tips and tricks that weren’t given to me when I first started, especially without having to pay a fee right off the bat to gain that type of knowledge or insight, and by being someone that they can look to as a mentor or someone that they can, bounce ideas off of when it comes time for them to start their career in this industry.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is the excitement that people get when they see me and tell me that they were inspired by my videos or my pictures as well as when they ask me questions about brands or products that I’ve collaborated with. These things are so rewarding to me because it means that, the content that I am creating is reaching my target audience, but also bringing them knowledge and awareness to products and services that they can use and their daily lives that most of them wouldn’t have known about otherwise.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To be completely honest, I don’t feel as though there is a particular goal or mission, driving my creative journey, other than to feel fulfilled doing what I love doing, and knowing that I can make a living from it. For most of us that could be simply working our 9 to 5 as nurses, doctors lawyers, etc., but for me, I really do love, creating content editing, sharing my experiences with others and even teaching others how to do what I do, and if I can create a full-time career of that and make a living that I can financially take care of my family then I am more than happy with the outcome of my creative journey.
