We recently connected with Oliver Waterfield and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Oliver, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My name of my company derives from my time in the Marine Corps. I did 2 tours to combat during my 8 years in the Corps, 1 to Afghanistan and the other to Syria. I was in a Weapons Company who’s callsign was WarHammer. My work ethic, my attention to detail, and how I run my business all stems from my time in the service and how i learned to adapt in high stress situations.
Oliver, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Oliver Waterfield and I own a Grassroots racing organization called WarHammer Motorsport. We provide drivers an opportunity to race at the grassroots level for an affordable cost. We have 2 BMW E30s that we race in an Endurance Racing Series called Lucky Dog Racing League. We give drivers over 4 hours of drive time throughout a weekend of racing. We understand racing is an expensive sport so we provide an affordable arrive and drive program that allows drivers of all experience levels to get seat time and improve their driving skill. I am most proud of always improving our drivers skill level by the end of the weekend. Drivers times always get better throughout the weekend.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped build my reputation is going above and beyond for my clients. Coming to the track drivers want to be only thinking about driving. We provide a place where thats all the drivers need to think about. We provide video, data for drivers to analyze to get better. We provide food and drink to allow the drivers to stay hydrated and energetic for their stints in the vehicle. We also have crew that fuel and care for the vehicles throughout the weekend. Lastly, each car has a designated crew chief/spotter that communicated via radio during the drivers stint. This allows drivers to know traffic in front and behind, also where they are in the class, and gap to the car in front and behind. All of these additional things allow the drivers to get better and faster throughout the weekend.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After 8 years in the Marine Corps, I had a major pivot. In the Corps I was an Anti-Tank Missileman which is not compatible in the civilian world. Leaving the military is scary to a lot of people because there isn’t much support and its hard to figure out what you can do in the civilian world. Racing is a great fit for me because of the high stress environment. Owning my own business allows me to make my own decisions and create an experience for drivers that I would want to experience if I was paying for an arrive and drive weekend.
