Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Qiujun Ma. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Qiujun, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I studied dramatic literature in college. Writing was an interest of mine, but I never imagined that I would later make a living from it and become a professional writer.
In my daily life, I often encounter interesting events and people, which I jot down and turn into short stories. My journey into writing began with a college professor who was also a screenwriter. He read my short stories and thought I was well-suited for writing scripts. I was very interested in this, so I started learning scriptwriting.
Fortunately, after I graduated, my professor recommended me for a scriptwriting position at a film and television company, which marked the beginning of my career as a professional writer.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After graduating from college, my professor introduced me to a film and television company for a scriptwriting position. I started as a scriptwriting assistant, where the focus was on adapting, learning, and quickly improving my skills. Later, by a stroke of luck, a director noticed one of my scripts, and I joined a TV show’s writing team. That marked the beginning of my formal writing career.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Maintain your artistic perspective and have a unique insight into art. Be skilled at discovering beauty in everyday life and combine art with living.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
First of all, I believe in the importance of tolerance. There are countless types and forms of art, and not every form is readily accepted by the public. However, art that leads trends often faces many difficulties at the beginning. So, tolerance is crucial. Secondly, having more platforms for artists to communicate is important, as interactions between them can spark more creativity. Lastly, art should not remain confined to the realm of artists alone; it needs to engage more with the public, and more artists should have opportunities to showcase their work.
