We recently connected with Aidana Tuzelbayeva and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aidana, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
This is the most sensitive question and biggest dilemma for all people in creative industries. We think about financial stability and income while doing creative job. Some people spend 100% of their time and energy only working in creative industry, but only few of them can earn enough. Some artists work in “regular”, “paying-the-rent” jobs, and spending other 50% of own time for free for the art as an hobby only. I don’t judge both ways, I believe that every creative person has to make a strategy in career, predict the financial situation, realistically observe everything and make a right decision. But also, never stop doing what he/she loves to do.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a Director of films, music videos and commercials. I studied in film school in Los Angeles. As a child, I enjoyed editing different videos and found my own style – “dynamic storytelling”. It doesn’t mean, that the shots have to be 1-2 seconds which can confuse the audience. Dynamic style means the order of different lengths cuts, but logically set by storytelling. In one word – “not boring”. Car content (commercials, races, Formula-1 related videos) is one of the projects that I enjoy making. It’s dynamic, excited, fast. And I have my own vision in creating videos with them.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Obviously, it’s making bigger projects, like directing a feature film or making a global projects. For achieving that, I need only staying on my path, making small steps and getting more experience everyday.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think they might not understand the time we spend for the projects and why usually it takes long. For example, to make a feature film – can take years. Even making a small content, can take weeks. Pre-production, production and post-production processes always take time. We have no choice, but to go through all those procedures.
