We were lucky to catch up with Joyette Master recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joyette, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Empower Z.E.E. began from my personal journey as a mother raising two children with special needs. When my son was diagnosed with autism, I found myself overwhelmed, constantly searching for resources and answers. It was a lonely and difficult path, and I quickly realized many other parents were likely feeling the same way.
Empower Z.E.E. was born out of that struggle. I wanted to create a community where parents like us could find support, share resources, and connect with others facing similar challenges. This wasn’t just about solving problems; it was about offering something more—a sense of belonging. What got me most excited was the vision of empowering parents, providing not only the practical tools they needed but also emotional and mental support.
I knew this would work because I experienced firsthand the need for it. Empower Z.E.E. isn’t just another resource hub—it’s a place where families can feel understood, uplifted, and connected. It’s about helping each other thrive, and that’s what drives this endeavor forward.

Joyette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Joyette, founder of Empower Z.E.E., born out of my own journey raising a child with autism. Like many parents, I felt lost and isolated, struggling to find resources and support. This inspired me to create a community where families with special needs children can come together for guidance, advocacy, and connection.
At Empower Z.E.E., we offer educational resources, parent workshops, and empowering books. What sets us apart is our focus on both practical solutions and emotional support. We provide a safe space where parents can share their experiences and find strength in a community that truly understands.
I’m most proud of the supportive environment we’ve built. Families feel seen, heard, and empowered to navigate the challenges ahead. Joining Empower Z.E.E. means becoming part of a family that’s here to uplift, celebrate, and support each other every step of the way.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
We published three books: Supporting Your Child With Learning Disabilities, You Are What You Think – 52 Week Journal, Zee-Man Special Gifts. As a graphic and web designer, I had the opportunity to write and illustrate our books, and it’s been an incredible journey for both of us as first-time authors.
Amazon was a great choice because it gave us an easy way to reach a wide audience and offer something valuable to our community. The platform’s convenience and global reach were key benefits, though we have less control over the customer experience and fees can be high. Overall, it’s been an amazing way to share our stories.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
When I asked ZaKhai if he’d be interested in partnering with me to build a community and tell his story, he was all in. Zee’s journey has always been a central part of Empower Z.E.E., and having him as a co-founder just made sense. He’s been involved in every step of creating our comic book ZEE Man Special Gifts, and through this, he’s helped shape how we support families in similar situations. Our partnership is special because it’s mother and son and built on both of our personal experiences and the desire to make a difference for others.
