Dana , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

My mission with my spray tanning business is to provide an alternative and healthier way of tanning, other than the sun and UV ray exposure. I am a mobile service, and although I have had actual locations for clients to visit prior, being mobile has really allowed me to create an elevated, luxurious client experience. Traveling to my clients provides them with an over all sense of ease, better time management, as well as convenience and comfortability, all in their own home!

Dana , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Dana, I am 36 years old, living in the Philadelphia area! I love new restaurants getting a nice walk in to start my day and a nice Zach Bryan tune ! My family + friends are everything to me, especially my niece and 2 nephew’s, they bring me so much happiness ! Also very into all things astrology, I’m a Libra sun and moon, Sag rising! I fully operate off of peaceful energy and good vibrations, and I thrive most, when connecting with people !

I started this spray tanning business at 23 years old, with my sister, 1 year out of college,! We decided to start the business because we ourselves were always getting spray tans, and it really at the time was not as trending or as evolved as it is now. We only knew of 2 businesses providing this service . We had the idea in fall of 2011 and were certified in December of 2011 with an LLC; The Dollhouse. We were spray tanning people in my mother’s bathroom with our living room as the waiting room ! We rented a space and operated out of a few locations for a while, then my sister decided to start a family and in 2018 parted ways from the business . I however, knew my work wasn’t finished, I had more to discover, more people to spray tan and more to accomplish ! I made The announcement in 2019 to go mobile and be a travel service only….. and it was the best decision I have ever made. I was overnighting a spray tan tent and using a grocery tote in center city for my equipment because the day after announcing, I was booked the rest of the week! I really didn’t know what to expect, I also had no idea there was such a demand for this service in the Philadelphia, South Jersey, and Bucks County community.

I really thrive and feel most fulfilled in connecting with people and helping others. I think what sets me apart, it is the level of care I provide and how invested I am in each of my clients. I work with anyone in search of a spray tan, but Bridal business has really taken the cake for top clientele that I service. To give an example of how I interact with my clients, if you are “my bride”as I call it, of course, I will work with you to make sure you are always fully prepped and prepared and especially comfortable when under my care. However, it doesn’t really stop there I will always go the extra mile for you, if you need help finding someone for extensions for wedding day, make-up artist for the big day, or even something as simple as educating on skin care needed leading up to the wedding, I will always give my clients guidance for whatever it is they need and refer them to the best of the best in my network . I love making people look and truly feel beautiful and I consistently go above and beyond and I know they feel that from me….. and that for me that is the most rewarding part of it all!

I am most proud of the connections and trust I have built with my clients and other artists in the beauty industry . There really isn’t any better feeling than knowing how trusted and confident others are in your level of skill and artistry. This fuels my confidence and ambition even more! I feel I am capable of anything, the sky’s the limit !

I want future clients to know that I believe that every human and body is different and beautiful in their own way, it’s what makes you, you! Never apologize for who you are in my spray tan tent, flaws and all, you will always be accepted by me! You will leave feeling even more beautiful with that liquid gold confidence , that’s a guarantee !

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I think what helped build my reputation over time was consistently producing a great-end result, educating my clientele, and making them feel a level of professionalism and relatability, which is something I feel the beauty industry lacks these days.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?

I think every business goes through these ups and downs where one day can feel like everything is aligning and you’re knocking it out of the park, then the very next day, bam; you feel it’s moving at a slower pace, panic mode sets in, and those intrusive thoughts of “my business won’t survive” come into play! I think sometimes businesses , especially when you first start, ebbs and flows, and you need to take the good with the bad. It is all apart of the journey and a definite learning experience , I try to embrace it all. You grow through what you go through, right? For a while, people would say spray tanning is a seasonal business, and it definitely felt like that at times . Fortunately, nowadays with so much advancement in the industry, people can and do depend on spray tanning, more for the health benefits and convenience due to the rise in skin cancer. Not everyone has time to always get to the beach, many people can’t be in the sun, or simply don’t want to be anymore ….and you better not be in that tanning bed! Having this safe alternative for people really is a game changer and that’s what helped me stay hopeful and confident along the way.
