We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Perry Pressley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Perry, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My family on my fathers side were singers & musicians, & my mom would have me play records for when she had. company so the love for music was in me. I was inspired by Jam Master Jay of Run DMC to be a Dj but it wasn’t until I my mom let me go to my first concert, I was 14, Dj Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince were the headliner. When I watched Dj Jazzy Jeff do his solo set, I knew then “I want to THAT! I want to be a Dj”.

Perry, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Dj: 2001 I was living in New Jersey at the time working 2 jobs, a coworker on my day job was telling me how he MCs for a guy that plays music at various clubs in the area but was looking for a Dj. I told him that I’m interested & if he could introduce me. I met the guy, I let him know that I did’t have any equipment but I do have music (CDs) he said no problem I could use his equipment & the rest is history.
Detailing: I always had a love for cars, 2005 I was living in a small area outside of Philadelphia , I was washing my car when a neighbor asked “how much do you charge?” after that I began detailing cars in the area. I did’t start detailing for living until 2019 when covid hit & I lost my job due to the shut down so I had to do something to keep the bills paid. Luckily I was able to afford the tools & products I needed to Detail full time.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me are the results, customer satisfaction, the smiles I see on a persons face during & after Djing an event or after seeing their vehicle after a detail.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’d have to say not giving up, during the slow times when business isn’t doing well, I still promote, interact, engage on social media, as well as think of ways to reach customer needs & to say relevant .
