Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalie Mccarty. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natalie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story of Gut Instinct honestly begins long before its conception. The background here is that I’ve always been in love with film, literature, and music. I really mean it when I say they’ve shaped who I am.
I have always been fascinated by how all three connect. The way a good story becomes the backbone of a great film, but how the cinematography and visuals can create new meanings and interpretations of the written work, all while a soundtrack can work to immortalizes the experience or the feelings of the film. Each a separate work of art in their own right, but can also be artfully woven together in ways that create something timeless.
When the pandemic hit, I ended up more isolated than most. Definitely spent my time diving into classic films and vinyl records that had been untouched for years. It truly became my escape, and I fell even deeper in love with media. I’d always planned on working in the entertainment industry in directing or producing. But that time spent immersed in media gave me a new mission: to find ways to connect a variety of interests and elevate storytelling in fresh and meaningful ways.
It was also COVID time that kind of made me go down this side path where I fostered this relationship with the internet. When the world shuts down, what’s the tool you have to build a story? When there’s no film sets or open recording studios, how do you create something new? To connect with audiences that are all locked up in their homes? How do you build community in a time of isolation? You utilize the internet. Thus, the idea of Gut Instinct began.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Social media can be overwhelming at times, but that’s why I love what we do at Gut Instinct. We’re creating a space for authentic, meaningful media—sharing real human stories that reflect grief, love, personal growth, and everything in between. It’s not about chasing clicks or coverage, but about building genuine community through shared experiences.
Our media mirrors the world around us—the brokenness, isolation, hope, romance, anxiety, and loneliness… however life shows up. Our stories cover the the art in and of living.
The world you see is the world reflected in our media. The people you know are the voices you’re hearing from. We’re strong in our vulnerability, and it’s not just us who finds that beautiful—it’s the brands, artists, and collaborators we’ve worked with who feel the same. Even in our interviews, we uncover the humanity, passion, and drive behind every company or talent. It’s refreshing media; a true celebration of our communities. I’m very proud of it.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Working with people who are highly motivated and driven is what keeps morale up. It’s much easier to manage a team when it’s made up of creatives you genuinely respect. Of course, like any business, we’ve had hurdles and challenges, but overall, we operate like a well-oiled, supportive team.
I’ve always found success working with friends. Understanding and empathizing with what goes on in their lives beyond work is a huge advantage. I truly care about everyone who works with me. If personal issues come up that might affect a deadline, I’m more than happy to step in and cover for them (and vice versa, which is a nice support to have).
I also fully trust the people on my team. I want their input, their ideas, and their vision—that’s what makes Gut Instinct as successful as it is, or as it will be. Collaboration is key and the heart of our workplace dynamic.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is the connection it fosters and the constant evolution it brings. Whether it’s through writing, film, or even a conversation, I love that my work can resonate with people on a personal level. There’s something powerful about knowing that a story or idea I’ve helped create can move someone or make them feel seen. It’s that ability to spark something real, to create a space for reflection or emotion, that makes being an artist so fulfilling for me.
At the same time, each project teaches me something new—about myself, the world, and the people I’m collaborating with. It’s exciting to push boundaries, take risks, and work with others who bring their own unique visions. The journey of growing with every project and creating something meaningful together is what keeps me inspired.
