We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Haley Wilkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Haley , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

The Wilder Dogs was created to provide high quality and all natural snacks and treats for the Colorado dog. We love our dogs like family, which is why you can find us brewery hopping and booking reservations on outdoor patios. We wanted to be able to provide our dogs with delicious and nutrient-dense snacks for dogs between meals, after hikes and as treats on long days exploring all that Colorado has to offer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

The Wilder Dogs was named and inspired by our journey training my dog as a medical response service dog. My dog needed high-level rewards that would keep him focused and motivated to learn tasks to support my experience of living with a medical disability.

My dog is my lifeline and without him, I would lose so many of my freedoms. Life with my service dog allows me to fully participate the little things, everyday.

How did you build your audience on social media?

We are brand new to the social media scene! It was challenging for me to show my face and speak on social media, but when I did, everything changed! I noticed followers were more responsive to our posts and attendance at events increased! It’s been awesome to build online connections and then meeting new friends (and their dogs!) in “real life” is super rewarding!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

When I started my business, I had to unlearn the idea that I had to have a boss! I’ve loved calling the shots and relying on myself to make the dream work!
