Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juliette Angelo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Juliette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken in my life was leaving the entertainment industry when I was 21. I had been living in Los Angeles since I was 13, working consistently in film and television. On a gut feeling, I decided to move to Nashville, TN when I was 21 years old. I didn’t even know what I was doing, just that I had to do it. It was chaotic and very abrupt, but I managed it somehow. Shortly after, I wound up getting sober, which lead me down an entirely new path. If I hadn’t left when I did, I have no idea what my life would look like now, or if I would still even be here. It was the best decision I ever made for myself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Juliette Angelo, I am a former child actor. I began working on Broadway when I was 8 years old, in the shows How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Tony Award winning original cast of Billy Elliot, and as Jane Banks in Mary Poppins. At around 13 years old I booked my first TV series, called Malibu Country. I played Reba McEntire’s daughter, June. After that showed was canceled, I continued working on various TV shows and some film. My most notable roles have been Emily Fornell in NCIS and Geneva in Shameless. I was able to work on Trial of the Chicago 7 with director Aaron Sorkin and an all star cast, that was an awesome experience. After I left the industry when I was 21, I moved to a few different states. I now reside in Montana. I recently signed to Key Management and have just began auditioning again. I am also a singer / songwriter. I am currently touring a Patsy Cline tribute show, which has been so much fun. I just had my first sold out show! I do have my own record out as well, called Fields of Tennessee. It’s just recorded on my iPhone, but it does the job for now.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I had a very tumultuous time growing up in the entertainment industry. Part of what drives me today is reclaiming all of those experiences for myself. I love the arts, but unfortunately I was in a very exploitative position when I was a child. At 25 years old now, I hope to re-enter the industry in a more positive light.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to unlearn was that my worth does not equal how much money I make, or how many roles I book. That was the mentality instilled within me growing up. I understand now that I am worth so much more than my TV credits, or the money in my bank account. It is very freeing to not have that pressure on myself.
